Don't they have all that stuff for the old man already?

That's the old Old Man. Have to update it all for the New Old Man to attract all the kids these days with their punk rock haitcuts and loud music. No 12 year old is going to want a shot glass with some old, moldy lump of rock. Gotta be new, hip, hot, and happening, you know.

The $2.5M could probably go pretty far replacing all the TRS 80s and Apple II+ in the schools. Or maybe even fund a (gasp) school arts program or something.

Anytime I saw the Old Man... It was when i was on my way to somewhere else..

I don't think people are canceling summer vacations filled with camping, hiking and swimming because it's gone.. NH is a gem with or without the Old Man...

According to the Union Leader article, the "replica" will be funded with private donations. The only public funds being discussed is the long-awaited memorial state park that is still sitting in the state house for approval.

I think a replica would be an abomination. The memorial may be alright, but it depends on how it's done. It should be more museum than theme park.

A memorial dedicated to what, the relentless passage of time? The power of geologic forces? Erosion?

I think they should totally rebuild, but make it better. They could give it a more modern look and put facilities inside of it. Imagine eating a gourmet lunch inside the forehead! Some sort of mechanized transportation to get up to it would be needed too, of course.

Holy crap, dude. Think of the f'ing zip line from the forehead down to the old man viewing lot. HOLY CRAP, SWEET DUDE!!!!

He should have glowing eyes and a shoot flames from his nostrils.

Up until I heard about this ludacris plan to rebuild the old man, I thought this http://www.nh.gov/visitors/oldman.htm was the plan for the visitors area.
Replica of rock lined up at the base is actually a rip of a plan that I had submitted by email several years ago when the state was asking for ideas from the public. But that is another long story
I wish Yahoomail saved "Sent Items" at that time. I would have evidence to back up my claim.
