The rain that's gonna pour on Monday isn't good, but on the Sunday after that, where will be the best place to ski? We want a resort that will recover fast and satisfy advanced skiers, and is less than 3 hours from Boston.

Thanks for any responses.

Good question! I've been researching the same thing all day.

I agree with other replies on Sunday River. :spread:

Really? Vermont usually gets double the rain on lake cutters as maine. I haven't checked the forecast but this almost always seems to be the case.

Edit-my proof lol

Okemo's commitment to seeded bumps has me leaning that way. I figure woods everywhere are going to be out of the question. Best option for a good day out would be to find who has the best bumps to ski. We'll see how the week develops, but right now my money is on Okemo being the best option for that.

If later in the week reports show that Okemo hasn't refreshed their bump runs with snowmaking, more than likely I'll just hit groomers at Ragged.

Okemo is reporting significantly more base snow 34-46 vs. SR 25-30. Granted, Maine had a whopper of a snowfall last week, but Okemo must have cranked out the snow to have these levels. Okemo's base exceeds most of VT save for Stowe.
With the inevitable base erosion, "good" in my book will come down to whether there will be enough left to be able to groom sufficiently. Of course the snow depth is going to vary a lot depending on the trails. We may see some black trails shut off.

Looks like the remainder of the week will be below freezing, sufficient for a natural or artificial snowfall event. Most resorts shut off the snow guns at the end of January, but it will be interesting to see how the resorts manage this one.

Natural snowfall, significant enough to improve conditions - a crapshoot.

I'm thinking it will be a crapshoot between the two.

I'll be at Stowe starting Friday, not looking forward to Olympic downhill conditions. Prayin' to Ullr now. That's my line and I'm stickin' to it.

Stowe is definitely not done making snow. They were cranking it out on Centerline yesterday and I saw mountain ops moving other guns around.

Woods are pretty beat though.

How bad do you guys think Killington will be this week? I have a place for Wednesday through Sunday. Seems like the worst week for it.

I'm not sure this storm is going to do that much to base depths, a lot of rain but relatively cold rain. Amount of rain might not end up making that much of a difference, just recovery capability.

Just ski where they are resurfacing. There's a huge amount of base on the advanced terrain. They will groom everything out.

I'm glad I picked this weekend to go to Key West!!

I think this question depends on 2 things, who cools down quicker and can make the most snow quickest, and who will get the most natural snow that will fall over the remaimder of the week. Both will have to be watched to know.
