You’ve skied all day, you feel fulfilled, tired, maybe a little feet or muscle pain, a couple of beers with friends sounds good, but you go back up for one more run. What’s your motivation?

Probably that I won't be skiing the next day or even if I am, that I only get in so many days a year, and should take advantage of it when I can.

If I'm real tired then I may take a few slow runs on some groomers. I know when I'm getting too tired to really be in the trees though.

This reminds me of a frustration I have this time of the year. Because of the inn, I always ski afternoons and not mornings. As the season gets later, it is still light when the lifts stop running at 4:00. By March, there's no reason not to run lifts until five, at least on weekends, yet none of the places I go to do this. Why?

If I'm fulfilled I stop. Somedays thats at noon, others it's at 4. If go for one more its because either I'm unfulfilled or the person I'm skiing with desires taking one more run and wants me to join them. There are plenty of times when I do keep going when my friends have called it beer thirty and unclicked.

The hard part for me is getting up there. Once I get there I don't want to stop until either the lifts stop or the whining of my ski companions grows too loud to ignorel

Hey, if anyone shouldn't be complaining about "getting up there" . . .

For KINGM...on the same lines as the lift not going till 5 question...why do most inns/hotels that serve b'fast start serving at 7:30am??? Bfast needs to start at 6:30 or 7 at the latest..having Bfast at 730 almost guarentees you wont make the chair at 8am..

7:30am order
7:45-7:50 done with bfast
8:15-8:20 arrive to mtn
8:45 start skiing...

I know when its time to quit...legs getting wobbly. But if been really good I'll have taken a small second break..last chair can be a good thing.

I'm guilty of that. There are a few reasons. First, we don't close the office until 10:00 and then on a busy night we'll get after hours calls, etc., and then it takes a good hour to get everything ready to go in the morning. If we opened at 6:30, I'd get about six hours of sleep. This is fine every once in awhile (I open early for ski racers, for example) but I can't do it night after night.

Second, we're the exceptions here. I get more complaints about only serving until 9:30 than opening at 7:30. Most people roll in around 8 to 8:30. Most of the time I open at 7:30 and...nothing.

Having said that, I do open about fifteen, twenty minutes early most days and if people express concerns about our opening late, I tell them as much. "No guarantees, but if you come by around 7:15..."

If I'm ready at 7:15 and you're the first ones in, you can have your breakfast in about five minutes. The hardcore skiers eat in about ten minutes, have their stuff already loaded in the car and can be from our parking lot to SB's in about five minutes.

My recommendation is that if you have a special request for breakfast, it doesn't hurt to ask politely. It might not be possible, but there's a good chance your inn doesn't open earlier simply because they don't think anyone wants breakfast that early.

25-30 minutes? You either need to load your car before breakfast or you need a place closer to the mountain. :)

My days on the snow are VERY limited. I need to get in as much as I can when I do get to go. It's a good feeling getting a chair 2 minutes before 4:00. You know it's the last run and you really savor it.

The way I usually state it is " That was my last run for today" not "This will be my last run". The decision is made after the fact not before ... I usually know on my way down.

I have adopted a similar policy after a skiing friend noted that most injuries happen after "last-run" is called. :spin:

This is what happens when you take one more run. Check the hunched over posture and face plant at 1:00.

I just generally try to avoid looking at the clock, and keep skiing until they stop letting me on the lift. (Somehow, I always get last chair on the Glades Triple at K).
