You’ve skied all day, you feel fulfilled, tired, maybe a little feet or muscle pain, a couple of beers with friends sounds good, but you go back up for one more run. What’s your motivation?

More vertical feet!!!...Maybe just one more solitary liftride and a long dilly dally run down the longest trail on the mountain..if it's late season or I travelled far for a trip..maybe just prolonging the skiing experience.

Oh yeah and I would never give up first chair for a hot breakfast..no way..I'd go to the Paradise store and get a breakfast sandwich or Donuts..

I'm an early bird skier..If I get in line for first chair 10 minutes before the lifts open..I feel like a major slacker..

same here, I have skipped a free breakfast several times to make first chair. I figure I am staying overnight to get first trax, not the free breakfast. Always a bonus though when places make the hot breakfast in time for the early bird skiers to still get first chair.

I just about never eat the breakfast where I'm staying..whether it's an omelate or stale donuts...I usually hit up the local bagel shop like The Bagel in Stowe or Pearl Street bagels in Jackson WY..Bagel shops almost always open around 6-6:30AM..then I take the food back to the room..watch a little TV,,and ski ski ski.

I'm much more likely to quit for the day a little after lunch than at closing because I get started right away..so I feel like 4:00PM is plenty late for lifts to close unless the place has night skiing.

Probably that I won't be skiing the next day or even if I am, that I only get in so many days a year, and should take advantage of it when I can.

mine too....and for som e reason I always pick the hardest run of the day for my last. Prolly not the best i dea, but.....f*ck it.

Getting the most out of my lift ticket. If I'm skiing on a season pass, then I do it because I like punishing my legs, and I'll still enjoy it. The beer will still be there after the lifts close.

I've skied until last chair more this season than any other. If I've blocked a day to ski, then I want to get the most I can out of it.

I usually ski until the lifts close or other commitments require me to leave (often later than the commitment requires ;) ).

probably because if you get first chair its hard to make it to last chair. I almost never make it to last chair, because I get first chair almost every time.

i quit as soon as i start feeling shaky. i'd rather live to ski another day. plus, i dont enjoy myself when i have to back off because of fatigue.

same here. well put.

I'm with both you guys on this one. I listen to my body. So much depends on how hard I've skied during the day-and that is dependant on the mountain and the conditions. I'm not out to break anything, either vertical records or parts of my body.

My goal at the end of the day is to say "Good day, be back again".

I ski until they won't let me back on the lifts anymore. If I'm tired, I take it easy. If not, I'll go for the run that had the best conditions. Usually wait on the side of the trail 10-15 minutes until things quiet down, then take the last run with the trail to myself. Just the sound of my skis making turns.

Never. Why do you ask?

Just wondering..I'm more into first chair than last chair. I get pissed when I'm 2nd or 3rd chair on the weekend lol..

I only had last chair 2-3 days in Jackson Hole out of 66 days so far this season..

For me, and like a couple others here, I'd hit the bar. In the past I've been injured on the "just one more run" thing and have seen it hapen to others. If I start to lose my legs at all I call it quits. That "just one more" game is fun at the bar too.

This year was the first time I ever got first tracks and I mean not so much as a track in sight. Panorama at the top. Not even ski patrol tracks.
