It really should, but doesnt for me. Just suffered another knee injury (acl reconstruction two years ago)..this is most likely meniscus...you just need to time the injuries right and make sure the rest of your body stays strong to support you.

Does fear of getting hurt and not being able to ski stop you from doing some non-ski activities?

Hell no... Live life... take chances...

Don't end up and old man in a rocking chair wishing you tried something..

Funny this thread should pop up. I'm just starting my get ready for ski season routine, and am contemplating dropping hoops-at-lunch.

Last year I rolled my ankle badly and it set me back in ski prep...so I guess I'm at least "thinking" of fearing.

Too bad too, because the weather at lunch has been awesome for hoops lately!

Skiing is prolly the most "dangerous" activity I do. And the worst sports injury I've suffered in the past 10 years is a ruptured L5-S1 from playing golf, one of the world's safest sports to play.

There was a good article in the N.Y. Times, last year I think, about how the golf swing is the worst thing for your back.

There are things I won't do because the of the risk. Ice climbing, white water kayaking (I WOULD die), hang gliding. I once read an article that listed the 3 most dangerious sports - fatalities per participation. Ice climbing and hang gliding were on the list. I don't remember the third. (Was probably internet blogging!)

I think I know my limits at this point in my life. But I won't stop what I do.

I do have a friend who would stop mtn. biking in the weeks preceding a major ski trip.

I did hurt myself once a week befor we went. Could hardly ski all week and was in physicle agony

In short, No!
I seem to do what I want to do to keep active and fit. I find that my activities tend to keep me fit for other activities. Biking helps my volleyball legs, volleyball helps my ski balance, skiing helps my ..............you get the picture.
The only sport that doesn't lend to anything but frustration these days is golf. ARGH!

i played rugby for 10 years...only really thought about not getting hurt for ski season just before the last match of the fall...never thought about not getting hurt for rugby on my last day of skiing. rugby was a passion but skiing is much more than that.

if there was one sport that i think would mess me up before winter it would be rugby.

I was pretty fortunate when it came to keeping the legs safe in the fall...plenty of MCL and LCL strains but no tears...the shoulders and nose didn't fair as well, both rotator cuffs are torn and my nose was broken 4 times. I'd still be playing...but with two shoulders that dislocate pretty easily I can't really tackle...and a flanker who can't tackle is as usefull as tits on a bull.
