Yea...this weather sucks.
I've always said that december is the most important month. A well built base makes all the difference for the rest of the year. Last years freeze and thaw was terrible but tons of resorts had over 50% open all year because december was awesome. This year...with these december closures and no base the question really becomes who has more than 50% open by xmas.

I think this is it. I give up. I am selling on my ski gear and taking up golfing.

No but really. I think this is it, as far as the bad weather goes. The cool down is coming and we will have some really good snow sliding later in December and in January. It just has to happen, at least statistically speaking. Wax those skis and prepare to get crushed by lots of cold and snow.

I was thinking of doing the same except I was going to take up directing pornos instead of golf.

My solution to this mess: We will need 8 to 12 people for this.
1. Scrape up a bunch of cash.
2. Fly somewhere where it's dumping.
3. Rent a whole Helicopter.
4. Powder heli skiing all day.
5. take lots of pictures.
This should cure us for a few weeks to a month.

A helicopter? I don't get it. Is that for transportation to the golf course? What does "Powder heli skiing" mean?

This is a golfing forum right?

My solution is to rent a B-52 and explode a Fat Man in the atmosphere over NNE.

Nuclear winter, baby. We'll have to switch from Gore Tex to lead lined clothing though.

That's a great Idea! We should have a fund raiser like the did in all the cheesy old '80's movies to raise the money!

Damn, just what the doctor ordered. Full trip report with pics will be needed. I want to do this first before venturing out in a heli. A lot cheaper too.

whoa, hold on man. it is only december 2nd and snow is in the forecast all week long! steve wright just reported over on FTO that it has changed over to snow at jay and snow making temps will be very good these next couple days. next week, everyone will be open and we'll all be skiing and all will be good.

well ok...my brain was just melting in the 70 degree temperatures. I mean on 11/2 we were thinking that we'd have all of november to ski...and look how that turned out.

how much do people normally get out in november though? only a few select areas generally open around the 10th, so at best, you get 2/3 of november. many areas hold off until thanksgiving weekend. i suspect most skiers, even dedicated one's, don't get more than two or three november days. when you look at the big picture... we are really not that far behind. the lack of snow making and natural snow really bites, but the majority of ski areas were not even scheduled to be open until this weekend and next weekend when you think about it.

Consider it done.Probably around Jan 11th I'll have pics of this trip.I'll post some of my past trips when I get a chance. As to trying cat served before heli, probably a good idea.I actually did it the other way around. My fist experience was a day trip with Whistler Heli. The nice part of that heli outfit is that if you can't fly for weather concerns you can ski two 5000 ft vertical mountains instead.I actually like catskiing better than flying. Its a slower pace but we are out there from dawn to dusk. You have time to recoup and eat\drink before the next run. Most times it is about 10-15 minute ride..App15,000 vert a day of untracked pow.Doesn't sound like a lot but at the end of the day your pretty spent.
