If I'm skiing a half day or night skiing I do not wear one. On full days I always wear one. Extra gloves and liners, base layers, car keys, cell phone (only used for emergencies), iPod, and Cliff Bars or something similar. I have last year's version on this. The H20 reservoir is the main reason I got around to buying a pack. http://www.backcountry.com/store/CAM0206/CamelBak-Menace-Hydration-Pack.html?id=5aspzXqM

That's pretty cool, kinda what I've been looking for. Price seems a little steep, but nice to have on longer days and to haul a few extra things for the kids around.

I agree on the price. BUT, I got it for around $50 with shipping and handling from Steep and Cheap.

So now its called a "lumbar" pack? Still not sure ...I'd rather go w/ a camelback, function over form.

Yes. I have a lumbar pack. It's not a fanny pack. Fanny packs are made of fake black leather and are for gapers... ;)

Same here. One of my packs fell apart recently so I'm down to 3. Looking to replace the pack and the whole in my heart. ;-)

the 420 phrase hadn't made it to the East coast in 1989... :)

Was Burton around in '89? When was the Co. started up?

I have a pack, but only use it if I know I will be doing an hour or more of hiking for turns off a lift. I don't like wearing them, but I can see why some people do - especially when they have kids and need to pack rat for them.

In general though, I feel like packs have become a fashion accessory and more people wear them than need to inbounds. 1 liter of water, a small camera, a sandwich and an extra hat does not warrant a pack, but it does make you look more "core" in theory.

Do we get to hear the story about you getting your pack stuck in the chair on the beginner lift again?

I love that one...
