Pants down or up? New fashion or stupid?

During the '80s I didn't wear any of the gay 80s clothes, well except maybe acid washed jeans. I wore basically jeans, one of the 20 Zeppelin t-shirts I had and a flannel over that. I guess I was ahead of my time, grunge before grunge appeared. At least I don't have any regrets about my wardrobe. The mullet with the spiked top is a different story.

Add some work boots and you had your standard "hick" wardrobe...or "burnout" whatever your HS called it. It was still a standard 80's outfit...the anti-outfit.

wearing pants that don't cover your ass on a mountain in the middle of the winter is just plain stupid...so is having to stop skiing or riding to pull your pants up.

I wear baggy pant when I ski. The reason is that I have a huge ass. Pants with the proper length are too tight up top. I wear a belt at all times, and they are at my waist.
I laugh at the people who's pants are hanging very low, and they complain how they are cold.

Think of how much entertainment the low pants, long tees, etc, provide in the lift line. How many conversations have you had with others in line about this? How many chuckles, snide comments and smiles? Look at how many pages of replies there are on this topic. Hey, if the kids weren't doing this, what would you be complaining about? The bottom line (pun intended) is that these kids are helping to keep the ski industry (gear and resorts) alive so as silly as it may appear, they're still skiers or riders and we need more of them.

Part of it is functionality as well. Skiers for a good majority keep their legs pretty close together, boarders have wide stances in which we bend down to grab our boards, twist and a lot of pants don't offer the flexibility unless you sag them a bit.

Well for me, skiing and boarding, I have both sets of gear and if I wear my ski pants while on my board I just dont feel as comfortable and vice versa.

There are lots of reasons that there a baggy pants on the mountain. Someone could have ordered online like I did and got a size too big without returns. Part of it is functionality as well. Skiers for a good majority keep their legs pretty close together, boarders have wide stances in which we bend down to grab our boards, twist and a lot of pants don't offer the flexibility unless you sag them a bit. Granted I'm not proposing that the people that have them hanging off their @$$ aren't doing it on purpose but there are some people that take functionality too far. Do I think this is a thread with an underlying skier v. boarder vibe, kind of, but if you look at the new freestyle skiers on the mountain, they wear their clothes just the same. I ski and ride so I'm not taking sides here but it's more a function of freestyle vibe than anything else.

I'm a skier, and I wear Burton Board pants because they allow more movement and aren't as confining as ski pants. Granted, I got the bib overall type with suspenders so the boys can ride free without that plumber look! :wink:

Bibs are where it's at man. You wouldn't believe how many people try bibs and never go back. I see it a lot with cyclists too, especially my comrades who are a little rounder at the mid section. But it's the same exact concept with skiing... so much more comfortable not having your pants held up by the waist.




Same concept with suspenders on bunker pants and firefighters.

But it's the same exact concept with skiing... so much more comfortable not having your pants held up by the waist.

I don't have bibs (I would if I found a decent pair that I could afford), but I insist on having integrated suspenders on my snow pants.

I think most do. I've got a pair of Lowe Alpine shell pants that have the fly, and the full length leg zipper that goes all the way up and around the back above the arse (one long zipper starting at one ankle, ends at the other) so if I'm winter camping I can take a dump without disrobing.

And I can also take off base and insulating layers without taking the pants off too. Really handy.

I use bibs and really like them. Only problem is the straps keep coming off on da bump runs. Can't cross them. Gonna have to get some kiddie straps or something across the front.

Seriously dude? Those comments were hardly homophobic. For perspective, just so I do not appear homophobic for saying saying that, I have gay friends and support gay marriage... for what it is worth. The word gay was around long before it became a term for sexual preference and "looking gay" is certainly a valid statement without being homophobic. I think everyone with two eyes can appreciate that some things just look like they can be associated with the "typical" gay look many people have connotations of.
