LUDLOW, Vermont — Although the mild winter of 2005/2006 posed numerous challenges for ski resorts throughout the East, its positive impact on the construction business has placed Phase II of Okemo Mountain Resort's Jackson Gore project ahead of schedule.
"Not only are we ahead of schedule with Jackson Gore's Adams House slopeside residences and the Fitness and Aquatic Center at Jackson Gore, but the project, at this point, is coming in under budget," says Director of Planning and Real Estate Development Ted Reeves. "And that means we may be able to start construction on the Bixby House ahead of schedule this summer.
The Bixby House is the first of two whole-ownership slopeside residence buildings slated for construction as part of Jackson Gore's Phase II development plan. The Bixby House and Coolidge House were recently in the spotlight as the focus of a tremendously successful selection event that witnessed the sale of $32 million of real estate at pre-construction prices, in just over four hours. Residences varying in size from studios to three-bedrooms sold from $378,000 to $2.181 million.
Available real estate in both buildings has risen in price, on average, by eight percent since the selection event. This is the first time in a decade, that whole-ownership, slopeside residences have been offered for sale at Okemo.
Another Jackson Gore construction project scheduled to begin this summer is a new multifunction recreation facility, with ice skating, basketball and tennis. Planning and permitting is now underway for a conveniently located golf course at Jackson Gore, which would be an ideal introduction to the sport for beginners and families. Groundbreaking is expected to take place next spring.
Jackson Gore, one of five alpine skiing and snowboarding expanses that make up Okemo Mountain Resort, is the newest addition to the 620-plus acres of terrain available to winter enthusiasts at Okemo. Of the resort's 18 lifts, two surface lifts and two high-speed, four-person chair lifts service a variety of terrain for all ability levels at Jackson Gore. At the base area, where Phase II is underway, the Jackson Gore Inn features elegantly appointed slopeside accommodations and the Roundhouse, a day lodge with ample seating and a convenient on-the-go food court. Other base area amenities include full-service dining, a guest services center, day care center, guest fitness center and swimming pool, Snow Stars learning center, real estate sales office, ski/snowboard shop, sundries shop, equipment rental/repair shop, video arcade, meeting rooms and underground parking – all accessible by covered walkways offering sub-surface heating for more efficient snowmelt during the winter months.
In its annual "Top 50 Resort Guide," SKI Magazine named Okemo Mountain Resort one of the best in North America and one of the top ten resorts in the East. Ranked number eight, Okemo also made the East's top ten in seven of the Reader Survey's published categories: Grooming, Snow, Family Programs, Service, Lifts, Lodging and On-Mountain Food.
Having just celebrated its fiftieth anniversary as a renowned ski resort, Okemo has been carrying over its model for success to the warm-weather months as well. Okemo operates two 18-hole championship golf courses. Additional recreational pursuits in the area include hiking, biking, swimming, paddling, fishing and horseback riding.
