Wow...that is really late....but at least they are letting passholders ski at Killington the weekend before. Not sure what else this says. I can say that the weather here at the foot of the mountains has been tempermental to say the least. We do have a skim of snow out there right now...

We were actually looking at buying a condo at the base of Pico a couple of years ago. Owners of these condos have to be ticked off since opening late/closing early obviously affects rental income. Glad we did not buy at that time (prices have come down a bit now as well!!).

When I first started skiing..Pico was considered a major Vermont ski area with it's 2,000 vertical feet and now it's 2nd or even 3rd tier..but still 2,000 vert..

I don't care if it's 2nd or 3rd or 4th tier. I like it from the first time I was there.

Nor do I understand why it's 2nd tier. It's got the vert and the terrain. Just not the glitzy base village. I personally think it's the Killington owner who wanted it that way so it does NOT compete with Killington.

But I'm glad it's 2nd tier. So the crowds stay away.

Pico is definitely a hidden gem. If it was all by itself in a corner of New England I am sure things would be much different. Unfortunately its not and it gets second or third rate attention.

I think POWDR looks at it as more of an addition to Killington rather than competition. It's role is to fill a niche market, with smaller crowds. I mean, the fact that Killington lists Pico's trails on their web page sort shows what the relationship is.

I think the big thing is that they want to focus on opening up Killington fully before moving effort over to Pico. Pico's only open Thursday-Monday anyways, except for the holidays.

I do need to make it there sometime this year. Probably when the bumps aren't very good at Killington.

I do need to make it there sometime this year. Probably when the bumps aren't very good at Killington.

Back in the day and I'm guessing still, the bumps on Upper Giant Killer where as good as anywhere at Killington. They used to have a Poma lift that served just it, which was incredible for doing laps on. Now, the Poma is no longer, but I hear the lift line is a great unmarked run.

I guess what I'm saying is that if I were you, I'd go to Pico when the bumps at Killington ARE good as chances are you will find equally is great bumps at Pico with far less competition.

A slope also used to be a great bump run, though somewhat short.
