pico's lack of snowmaking

A thread a little while back about someone’s first trip to pico got me excited about skiing pico. I have been watching the snow report for about a week now. And have noticed that their trail count is still only 23 out of 25 runs. With no reported snowmaking on the past few days. Why waste this great opp. To make some snow and expand terrain ? I know Pico is a low priorities for ASC but it doesn’t help the issue when they have less than half the runs open. I hate to say this but I rather take my pass and ski killington.!!

thought PICO listed 50 trails...think they have 25 open or so....I am headed up there Feb 10/11..would like to take mrs quattro there for at least a day (we're not huge fans of Killington) might do 1 day at Pico and the other at Okemo.....we'll see

Here is the reason (Quoted from K-Zone):
Expressway for Saturday, Upper Pike, still needs a bit more snowmaking and we're currently re-charging the water. Maybe Sunday. If the Nor'incher rolls in, maybe sooner!

I'd bet snowmaking resumes on Sunday or Monday.

With this stretch of extreme cold temps water is going to start to be a problem for alot of resorts that dont draw from a river or large lake. The streams coming off of the mountains are running at a trickle right now so it takes a good amount of time to refill snowmaking ponds.

Don't get me started....someone quoted the snow report for this weekend and NOTHING was done to open either Expressway Lower or Upper Pike. I have already started another rant on their snow reporting... :x

I like Pico, but man, it seems like going to an out-of-business sale at a store....

BTW yesterday it was packed. Upper Pike would have been nice to spread the crowd out.

It almost sounds like Pico is becoming ASC's latest "forgotten child" . Does anyone know Pico's primary source of water for snowmaking? Pico Pond looks like the obvious suspect but I remember reading back a few years ago about the ponds in the contoversial proposed intermountain connect area and trail pod.

SRO: They have some wells as well as two large ponds near the Outpost area....which are not on your Google Image there. Look toward the lower right hand side of the ski area and you will find them.

Upper Pike was sweet Saturday, doesn't really need much snowmaking. I realize that if they open it, it'll get skied off, but damn, I was in boot deep powder on Saturday. :spread:

Wait, on second thought, please don't open it :)

It's ok with me if it's "forgotten" as long as K. keeps funding it!

I should have been clearer.....I mean forgotten moneywise. Not only Haystack but also Sugarbush. I was working at the Bush during the ASC days and we were very frustrated but at the same time understood that the money was going to SR, Kmart and the Canyons.

After the huge intiial investment of 28m+, the Bush was "forgotten". Course, to say that the Bush ended up okay would be a massive understatement! I had a chance yesterday to read the huge article in Ski, just out...pretty sweet! To go off tangent for a moment, I thought the pics were mediocre at best. If they assigned the piece to either local ski photogs, Sandy Macy or Dennis Curren instead of bringing an out of towner who photographs for just a few days, they would have been 10 times better. Photog rant over....

Is there any safe way to get to Pico AND avoid the Killington traffic?

Meaning...drive to Pico? Or 'traffic' as in the skier sense? If it's the latter, FWIW the skiers and riders at Pico are much more courteous and much more in control as a whole.
