I'm stewing in a vat of jealously reading this thread. At best I'm looking at 5 days at Solitude.
Yes, I know, big first world problem.

Right now, think wife and I are doing Aspen NH Feb break that we missed due to her injury last year. Still debating about going a friend for a few days myself week before that in JHMR. Will likely do an early April strike solo too to either Bachelor or Mammoth, that will be determined on which has got the better goods. We grabbed an Indy along with our Silver NEP, so plan on Jay and Saddleback trips beyond our usual Bethel ME and NH bases for the full season out East.

I'm going to ski the spillway from General Life building to Rt 2. Then SugarLoaf then work my back to Vermont by way of Who - Ville.

Officially booked Seattle (yet again). This year plan, assuming no changes to Indy...

Badger/Echo Valley (both new to me)
Silver
Lookout
Big White
Blacktail
Lost Trail
Snowbowl
Bald Mountain/Snowhaven (both new to me)
Cottonwood Butte (new to me)

We were supposed to ski Snowhaven and Cottonwood last year but they were closed due to low snow. Would have been free for the girls with the 6th grade Idaho passport. But I'll be happy to pay as long as they're open. Backup plan incudes Discovery, which might be my favorite ski area in the US.

Hope to spend most of the winter in Utah again for the 7th year in a row. Also likely to ski several resorts in CO for a few days during Jan and Mar. Might drive up to Schweitzer in Feb. Would be the first time up there and could possibly ski a mtn or two on the way from UT. Slight chance I'd go up to Red Mtn, BC as part of the Schweitzer trip, that would be another first for me.
On my drive up to Sandpoint last May I drove by Lost Trail in Montana and it looked like a really cool mountain.

Lost Trail = the highest percentage of people I've ever seen booting up in the parking lot. Seemed like everyone arrived at opening, had a quick lunch and skied until closing. No lift lines at all though. Very fun place, excited to get back.

Schweitzer might be my favorite in Idaho. Jim, I'm sure you'll have a great time!

a Vail trip as I'm dangerously curious about what it's like there.

The front side is kind of boring & not why advanced/expert east coasters go west to ski.

China Bowl is pretty cool, but honestly overrated.

Blue Sky Basin is really awesome & worthy of a ski day by itself.

The town, artificial though it is, I think is pretty cool & gets slagged on way too much. Bring your wallet though.

looking to do a few road trips to some of the more out there Indy spots. There's a train a couple times a week between Shames Mountain (Terrace, BC) and Hudson Bay Mountain (Smithers, BC). Not sure it'll happen. Annual Europe trip might get swapped to Japan in February. Last skied Hokkaido right before the onset of Covid.

Train ride sounds nice! Would you fly into one and out of the other?

I haven't skied Vail in many many years but I enjoyed the mountain. I remember liking Game Creek Bowl and the Northwoods (Riva Ridge) section of the mountain. Blue Sky is new since I've been there. What interests me is your take on the town which I have never spent anytime in outside of walking from parking to lift. Looks pretty but not as authentic as say Aspen which admittedly I have spent more time in. Aspen has always been my favorite as compared others I have spent time in mainly Park City, Breckenridge and Winter Park. In the future I do plan to spend some time there along with Beaver Creek, Crested Butte and Telluride. Granby while a mountain town (and I think could be called a ski town) is much more laid back and I'm liking it more as I get to know it.

Got the MCP and Epic Emp pass so plenty of options. Im gonna do 4 days Grand Targhee/Jackson, 2 Big Sky, Tahoe for a few days, and 5 Alta/Bird at some point. Possibly Aspen if the snow is good there. Then Brighton/Solitude for night skiing and some other days. Probably make my way to Snowbasin as well.

Ah but there is nothing better then Brighton on a storm day. Lots of trees as opposed to no visibility everywhere else (at least in the Cottonwoods)
Thats true, I just stay in Park City on storm days cause I’m either working or able to walk to the lifts. Plus don’t want to deal with Cottonwood traffic at those times.

Vail is not my favorite place to ski or town to visit but it is a solid experience that should be tried atleast once. Along with Blue Sky Basin which is the highlight, the frontside is also very good as well if you know where your going. There are tons of untouched powder stashes in the sidecountry on fronside trails due to everyone racing straight to the back bowls each day. Also, the frontside has Prima Cornice which is one of the steepest trails in Colorado if you take the very first line down. The unmarked trees in the Game Creek Bowl are fantastic as well.

As far as Vail village goes, it has everything you'd want it's just manufactured versus being a former mining town. To me towns like, Aspen, Park City, and Telluride blow Vail Village away due to their authentic feel.
