Just though I would throw this out as the area is often overlooked. They have reported a total of 14 inches for the last 3 days and are now fully open. I believe their reports as they get lake effect snow. They have some pretty steep runs on the face, one fery steep, and great tree skiing. I would be there now...if I wasn't here.

They had 30 of 35 trails open today. I did not ski any of the glades, nor did I see any tracks in them. I did see ski patrol exploring some of the glades on the Northface, but the conditions underneath all of the new snow are bare ground. This would have been a great snowfall with some existing base beforehand, but the skiing was still fantastic.

And my wife wants to know why I'm so worked up about not being there. Oh, I don't know, maybe 14 inches of new snow. But were going to Whiteface Sunday, she says. They didn't get 14. Guess she doesn't get it.

This day trip was more for me than for my son, but I wanted him to start getting used to skiing natural ungroomed snow. He preffers to stay on the groomed stuff, but this is a good learning experience.

I wonder if the Catskills currently have the best conditions in the East, I am inclined to think so, just based on reports from further up north and in New England.

I hope you have good ski conditions at Whiteface, with a big dump of snow.

In order to ski the slides do I need avy gear. I don't have any. It would suck to have to miss super pow because of this. Any info on these slides, know nothing about them except from the website. Are they tight tree shots? Not good with those.
