It sounds like most people not wearing a brace had reconstructive surgery. I never had my acl repaired because my doctor didn't recommend surgery. Saw my doctor at an affair just this past Fri. night. He asked me about my knee & I said it feels fine. He replied see I told you you didn't need surgery. I forgot to ask him about whether I should continue wearing a brace while skiing. Since wearing the brace doesn't bother me I'll continue to do so.

Just picked up he Townsend brace. It seems to not slip down when using it without a sleeve like the CTI does.

I have had a Townsend brace since 1998 and I forget it even on. is yours carbon fiber?? , mine is and its incredibly light. I am sure you will like it.

How have you been doing with keeping the leg strong in the off season? I've heard about some people trying to go without surgery having the knee give out randomly and falling down. I'm thinking those people don't keep the leg strong but I don't know.

I do a lot of walking followed up with random leg raises & squats. This time of the year my wife & I walk several miles on the beach a few times a week which is more strenuous than walking on pavement. Never had the knee give out or even feeling like it would. As I've said before the only time I really feel it sometimes is when lying in bed, it stiffens up a bit & can cause a little pain when I first move it. Otherwise when I'm active I don't feel it at all. I injured the knee in Feb. 2013 so it's been a few years.

I kind of get the same thing when stationary for a while like driving long distances. I have to kick my leg out and then it is fine.

Did my left ACL in March on 2006. After a long rehab I didn't ski again until 2010. Never have used a brace. In fact my PT people said that was the point of all this: to get the leg strong enough so I wouldn't need one.

I do however have this old sleeve that I put on the other knee. Don't think it really does anything. More of a psychological benefit at this point.
