I think they're planning to replace most of it. The good snow guns are long gone, and I think an older newspaper article mentioned that a lot of important wiring (perhaps inside the lift drive terminals) was yanked out by thieves.

That's too bad. Probably scrapped it all for the copper.

If not, maybe they could lease the place to the state of New Hampshire to come in and run it. We'd get $20 lift tickets on wednesdays as ct state residents.

How will this affect your experience at your beloved institution if this plan is put in place?:daffy::snow:

it wont. as much as sundown is lacking in pitch, it looks like lower ovation in comparison to powder ridge.

Lower O is one of my favorites at the Institution. It's probably the steepest pitch in VT on map.

The invasion of little people is not far away! :flag::grin::uzi:

I wonder if the folks who own Lyman Orchards will ever get in on this?? Real close by. The have a decent marketing base and know how to attract visitors for events, plus they already know the trials and tribulations of running a seasonal sporting business with their golf courses

That's a solid idea. I'm sure the town will continue to sweeten the deal to avoid seeing the site site vacant, so maybe they'll do enough to intrigue the Lyman folks.

I've wondered that too...

There is no usable infrastructure left. They would need not only to tear down all the busted up buildings and build a new lodge but tear out the dilapidated lifts and install new. In other words wipe the mountain clean and start over. I don't know of anyone that has that kind of capital. :dontknow:

If I had the money, I'd open it as a mountain bike park in the summer. With Diablo and Highland both around 2.5 hours away, (and with Catamount closed ) it's in a good location. I know there are plenty of guys that would volunteer time to help cut trails and build features. A lodge isn't even really necessary. All you need is a ticket booth and and a small repair/rental shop (and maybe a bar ). They can supplement the biking income by building one of those adventure parks like they have at Catamount. You know, with stuff to climb on and ziplines and whatnot.

Being in CT, I think a developer would have better luck starting with a summer attraction and then using profits to develop the winter side of things like snow guns, lodges, etc.

Soooo, who wants to give me a loan? :-D

I'm amazed at how many times the area has looked like it'll reopens, then doesn't...then does...then doesn't.

This would be my plan:

Make a sweet park on one trail with this stuff. Bam! Year round skiing and boarding.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Snowflex
How cool would it be to go skiing/snowboarding in June (in CT!) wearing shorts and a t-shirt?

Open the rest of the place as a bike park during the summer months. I bet they could even get volunteers to help cut and maintain the trails. Hell, I'd sign up for a few days hard labor in exchange for a pass.

They could also put up one of those adventure parks with all the ziplines and whatnot. And how about an alpine slide and/or mountain coaster?

Powder ridge would work very well as a year round attraction. It would take way too much snowmaking to be viable as a ski area alone. With the summer stuff, they could wait to make snow when conditions are right instead of forcing it. And if you have a crappy winter like this one, you have the other attractions to keep you afloat.

I so wish I had the money or the backing. I know it could work.

The possible reopening of Powder Ridge seems to have more lives than a cat!

I guess I'll finally believe it when they're making snow and spinning some lifts. Until then, i'm not exactly holding my breath
