Well i cant comment on powder ridge but Sundown is strange, it has 2 really good little hills off to the right with 2 seperate lifts for them actually but if she got the hang of that, they have like 4 or 5 other beginner trails which are very easy for the first 3quarters but if you have ever skied there or look at a trail map they all end up going into an intermediate at the bottom of the hill, i was just there with my sister and her Boyfriend a first time skier and he did great on those 2beginner hills on the right and made it the 3quarters of the way down on the other beginner trails but once he got to that intermediate he fell about 5times in those last 500feet, its too steep and bumpy for someones first time there unless you strictly stay on the 2runs on the right, i dont like at all how its laid out, but then again ive never been to Powder ridge so i cant comment on that, STeve

Sundown definitely has more steep and vertical drop than Powder Ridge. How good is your daughter? Can she handle intermediate terrain? As FritoLayGuy says the green from the top of the mountain does dump into a wide intermediate trail that you have to take to get down. Its not really any steeper than a part of the green, but its a longer steep and usually crowded since most of the rest of the mountain has to go down it too. My wife who was a very timid beginner last year didn't like that part too much, but she made it down. Another option is Mohawk which has some more beginner friendly terrain than Sundown.

For the record, I've only been to Powder Ridge once many years ago and I currently work for Sundown... ;)

Powder Ridge isn't bad for a beginner, at least, it wasn't 25 years ago when I learned there. :-?

It gets pretty boring, pretty quick, though. Only 4 main runs and they're all rather straight.

Mohawk is a fun mountain for CT, Mt. Southington is also an option. Pretty small, but I think there's a bit more than PR. It can get pretty crowded, however.
