I wish you a speedy recovery!!

Positive vibes from me as well.Don't think that your season is over even if you have surgery.I have 2 friends that skied on one leg with the use of outriggers after their operations. Now that's making the best out of bad situation.

Good luck with the recovery Scott. I sprained my MCL 2 yrs ago and was only off skis for 6 wks, maybe you'll have a minor sprain like that?

I cannot thank all of you enough for the kind words over the past 48 hours, front-channel and back-channel. It has really made these depressing two days, well, not so depressing.

I had an MRI today in Albany, NY and got some very, very good news. The diagnosis was a dislocated patella (knee-cap) that tore a couple minor ligaments but the major ligaments (ACL/MCL) appear to be ok. The doc mentioned that there was a lot of fluid around the knee in the vicinity of the ACL but the expert opinion was little to no damage. The dislocated patella was shown on the MRI as deep bruising on either side of the knee and damage to ligaments that hold the patella in place.

Surgery will not be required and I was told told to treat this like a broken bone...stay off it for 3-4 weeks followed by a couple weeks of physical therapy. This means crutches for a few weeks but I'll take it considering the worst case scenario was pretty bleak. Doc said I could be on snow again around mid-February provided I don't do anything stupid and risk further injury.

This was the "best case scenario" and I'm happy that the rehab starts now and not in x-amount of weeks/months after a surgery. Now all I need is to get the swelling down so my knee doesn't look and feel like a bowling ball...might need to go back and get my knee drained of fluid and get a shot of steroids but aside from that, I should be golden.

Thanks again for all the support. See you on the hill later this season!

Powderfreak is on the Juice! He'll be shredding again in no time

Seriously though, it's good to hear it is only a 1.5 month setback rather than the whole season. You will back for prime time in February

See if you can talk them into draining the fluid in your knee. It'll make a huge difference in your comfort and mobility.

This is what others have told me... I might go back and push for it because the swelling is getting unreal. I can elevate and ice it for 16 hours a day and the thing is still the size of a cantaloupe.

Thanks for all the encouragement everyone!

Glad to hear you won't need surgery and that the major ligaments are ok! :D It does take a while for swelling to go down after a knee injury...but it will eventually. Stick to that PT! I went lax on my exercises over the summer and now my knee gets sore again. Good luck!!

Nice rebound man! That is great news. Glad to hear it's not the ACL. The good news is that you are in good physical shape, strong surrounding muscles, that should speed the rehab. Thanks again for your generosity in forecasting. I wish I could save some for you this week, but there's lots more to come!

That's awesome news Scott! While you'll have to take it easy for a few weeks, that's a lot better than taking it easy for the entire season.
