I would like to introduce myself here.

My name is ryan. I live in West-Central Virginia (Anyone been to Snowshoe?). I snowboard at Snowshoe,WV - The Homestead,VA - Winterplace,WV - Massanutten,VA - And At my house (I make my own snow on my own terrain park).

I am 14, and have been snowboarding since I was 8.

I joined here because many of the snow forums I am a member of are slowing down, yet AlpineZone seems to still be getting many posts a day.

I like Snowboarding, Snowmaking, Weather, MTN Biking, Winter, and Winter Forums.

I hope to be a frequent poster here, and I will enjoy this nice forum in doing so.

Catch ya later. :)

Let me continue with the welcome wagon. We'd really enjoy hearing about your adventures down there in the Snowshoe/Blue Hills area! We're under-represented there! Yeah, feel free to jumpstart the mtn biking conversation as well.

Welcome and hope to see more of you!

Agreed. awf170 has a lot of credibility and has had some great posts/threads/comments for the AZ Ski Area Challenge that were right on the money. We might have the next Les Otten or another ski industry mogul soon  Just graduate from high school and college first

I have always wanted to visit Snowshoe, but the drive from Long Island seems about as long as it would take to get to Sugarloaf. The only southern ski area that I have been to is Sugar Mountain in North Carolina, and that was for foliage viewing.

It's funny that the south has higher mountains and ski areas than the Northeast does for the most part. Do you make snow with homemade snowmaking equiptment?

Welcome

Yep. Air compressors and all. I can cover my 20x90' "terrain park" with about 8" of packed snow with running my 2 guns for about 24 hours. But that was last year. I plan to double - almost triple the output with my snowmaking project. About $1500 when its done.

People ask me "Why dont you just buy a season pass to snowshoe?". I like making my own snow more. I can make my own setups, ramps, everything. Sure going to snowshoe every week would be awesome; But I still prefer making my own snow.

And thanks to all for the warm welcomes :)

how do you get 1500 when your barely old enough to work, that will be so sick with a few guns, and how to figure out how to make these things

Skimaine4ever makes snow in his back yard as well. You guys should talk output and stuff like that. :D I think he is pretty young as well. We had a thread on this away back(you know I miss BVivert he always brought that stuff back after like 10 min.) he deserves a pm.

Yeah, my parents, along with everyone else in this county, think im crazy.

Ive got a ski area with about 19 slopes. Snowmaking on 2 of 'em.
Heres a map:

Got a few pics of my terrain park before I groomed it out. Pic taken early last season.

Piles range from about 2.5'-3.5'. Took 2-3 days to make all that with 2 standard guns. Makes about 3" an hour. Avg temps for the run were 35 for a high and 13 for a low.

It was a pain to groom though. But a good pain .

My current project is a resort-style fangun. I hope to push 4GPM out of it. This would make roughly 12" of snow over a 15x30' area in about 3 hours. That is 3 times the amount I can make with my other gun I wrote about earlier.

And TrailBoss-

Yeah, it does take alot of commitment. Sometimes I have to stay up for 24 hours straight, going out every few hours at night in 10F weather with the wind blowing 30mph. Its pretty cold. But the reward is well worth it. A weird stare from all the neighbors and the only shreddable terrain park for 30 miles around.

Yeah, Upper Flume has like a 4' rocky cliff. Not really big but when compared to the 80' long trail, it does make a difference.

This is a look down Tyro. You can go left or right. But if you go left, it is way longer. Also pictured is Cruiser. Its a short, steep trail.

Here is a picture of a test I did with my fangun. It didn't have all the nozzles on, so there was only 1.5GPM instead of 4GPM.

I'll see what I can do about more pictures later.
