I mean, I love the mountains for skiing and hiking and outdoors type $hit, but NH and VT are so damn boring at night! I could never live in a rural area full-time.

I grew up on a small farm & I lived a decade in Manhattan from a lob-wedge to Wall Street to the UWS.

Give me the small farm.

You guys don’t know how excited I got when I heard on the radio WBZ 1030:
“A large ski resort operator is selling off 2 of their resorts, more coming up at the top of the hour.”

I immediately thought maybe vail is finally selling Attitash and Wildcat!

Sadly, just Killington news.

But, the day with come! Wildcat won’t be yours forever VAIL!
I suspect if Vail divests of a resort or two, it is more likely to be in Pennsylvania where they already own (or operate) almost half of the open areas. I'm surprised that the anti-trust people haven't stuck their nose in like they did with ASC in New England.

The other likely places would be some of the sub-300' vertical areas in the Midwest.

I don't see Attitash or Wildcat on the chopping block.

All that being said, MTN (i.e.: the Vail Corp.) has never sold off a ski area to date. They have sold off some golf courses and some condo properties.

I live near Portsmouth, NH. Here and along the NH and ME seacoast on up to Portland has basically everything I would ever want out of a Boston or NYC with a fraction of the people / traffic / BS. Only thing missing is professional sports, which I would rather watch on TV anyway.

To your point, if I still lived in VT, it would be within 45 minutes of Burlington only. In Maine it would be within 45 minutes of Portland.

It would be nice to have less industrial lodges and no tents. Bear Mt should be the new SS pod.

A couple of good snow years and they could go public and still control the mountain. In good snow years let some areas stay natural and ungroomed. The possibilities are endless.

Yeah, go fuck yourself as well. I generally ignore your gibberish but you really are annoying and I wish you would just stop posting, it would make this place much better.

Well, well, well… if only the moderator hasn’t been doing pretty much the same thing when losing an argument, that post would have been deleted.

But as is, this is the virtual bar after midnight. Nobody who’re still there got any brain cells left. Only abuses heap upon abuses.

BM1 is a perpetual loser. I think I recognize his style in another forum.

Pretty sure Bode was either joking or having a moment. No offense to him, but I haven't read more than a handful of his posts since he returned. Forget his old handle, but it was equally out there content. Pretty easy to spot and ignore folks like that online.

Or you can feign outrage like abc and threaten to leave the boards forever for the upteenth time.

Yeah...sigh.... There's not a lot of urban amenities in the Whites. A few decent food and drink options, most of which have the same 5 wines and stop serving food around 8 pm. A couple college town sports bars in Plymouth. Some community theater type stuff in the summer and the New Hampshire Music Festival is an underrated gem, but most of the attractions are of the outdoor variety.

Been spending some time in franconia this summer. Iron furnace is decent for beer but menu is limited. Tried little grille in littleton Friday, place looks like a dive from the outside, we walk in to find Brazilian BBQ. Around a dozen dishes buffet style, then they walk around with another dozen different meats on giant scewer. Everything was excellent, kids even enjoyed it and they are not adventurous eaters.

Then walk over the footbridge to schilling beer garden makes for a good night. Only complaint is main street rolls up at 6PM.

Not a fan of iron furnace the 2 times I have been. Service was horrible as was the beer that I tried. Schillings (resilience more so) on the other hand has great beer and pizza!

What are the implications of POWDR retaining a seat on the Killington board ? Is this typical of transactions like this ? Without an ownership stake, what incentive does POWDR have to act in the best interests of the mountain ?
They are minority owners still. Could be up to 49%

Yup, realized they were maintaining a minority stake and tried to delete my post, but you beat me to it

Schilling is ok, same with Last Chair in Plymouth and One Love in Lincoln. Rek-lis has better beer, as does Dam Brewhouse in Campton and Sole Track in Rumney.

don’t like dam, and one love is horrible. Rek-lis is good. Last chair is okay. Never have been able to hit sole track when it was open.

Why not? If I were a billionaire, I'd definitely buy a small ski resort like a Plattekill or a Sundance, and keep it somewhat affordable, small, Mom & Poppy and old-school. Frankly, I'm surprised this hasnt happened more often.
Honestly i look at owning a ski resort as a pretty stressful experience. Insurance, weather, lots of expensive mechanical stuff to break, unhappy customers on social media having "Karen" events, and the list goes on.

Wanna have a good time owning a ski resort while you are a Billionaire? buy the place, and turn it into a country club. Sell people season passes, only, and only after you get to know them after a short "season passholder interview".
