I have one and I like it. It's older, one of the first models. I paid around 350$ for it. Look on eBay and in your local paper for good deals. I have a Reebok slide somewhere and it works the same muscles I will sell it for like 35$ I still like ice skating and rollerblading better than both.

Edge Machine

I have had one for a couple of years. While it is unquestionably expensive, I have found it to be the best way for me to get ready for skiing. It not only builds my cardio capacity, it works the specific muscle groups I need for successfull skiing. I think it is important to have the "Slope Simulator" attachment. It does wonders for balance.

I had to use one for physical therapy several years ago (ankle). Awesome. I can totally see how it would be beneficial to off-season training. That said, they are very pricey. At this time, I can't justify buying one. :(

Yup....pricey....

....but a great value when you see how well these are built, and stood behind by the Skier's Edge co.

I've had my first for 14 years. Bought my second last spring.....big mountain series with all the bells and whistles (especially the platform that allows fore and aft movement). Superb ski specific training.

Recommend highly.....but $$$$ is a factor.

Try the routine suggested in November's Ski magazine. It is a killer. I am not kidding, just try it! Like the Skier's Edge, It really targets ski-specific muscles. I usually don't believe the hype when workout routines are published in Ski, and say to myself who the heck is really gonna follow that?... but this one is really worth while. I am a year-round runner, competing in 5K's - marathons, and a former triathlete - this routine got me breathing hard and working neglected muscles. Plus it incorporates exercises that develop the nerve pathways and muscles and coordination that enhance your dynamic balance ability.

Here is the abstract from EBSCO, "The article provides information on how to train your body in order to safely maneuver through ski trails and slopes that have not been groomed. The author explains that it is crucial for a person's body to be physically prepared for natural snow and terrain. He lists various exercises that target important areas of the body."

I have the HTML full text, if you want I can send it to you, but message me. Unfortunately, the HTML full text lacks the pictures in the article, which help a lot.

But I am sure most people in these forums have that copy of Ski sitting around somewhere anyway.

It is not the current issue, December's issue has been out for a month at least, so I hope they still have it.

PS - you are gonna need one of those big workout ball thingies for some of the exercises.

By the way, I have a standing alert for Skier's Edge at eBay. When you consider shipping costs, usually a used machine would cost more there than with a direct new purchase!
