So with all the talk of phat skis and what type you use for this condition and that, i have a question

do you bring all your skis with you everytime and constantly swap out skis until you find something suitable for the conditions you're skiing? Or do you choose one pair based on what you think you'll encounter and ski those all day.

If I think I'll encounter touring conditions, I'll bring my touring skis. If I think I'll encounter lift served conditions I'll bring my alpine set up. If I'm not sure, I default to the touring gear. How easy is that???

Usually plan ahead and bring one pair, but occasionally I'll stash a 2nd set in the car. More because I was trying to get used to my fatter skis last season and a few times they frustrated me so I switched.

Usually just 2 pair.

Although the box is certainly capable of holding more.

1 pair with me to the hill. The last thing I want to be doing is 2nd guessing myself EACH run as I'd be tempted to if additional sticks were located right at the base area

I either bring one or two pairs with me. At Blue mountain they have complimentary skicheck so you can ski on one pair and have your other pair in safe hands and swap skis without returning to your car. In the early spring, I like to have narrower skis for when it's hardpacked first thing and fatter skis for the crud as it warms up. The biggest transition is going from my Elans at 176cm and 67mm underfoot to my Nordicas at 193cm and 110mm underfoot..takes a few turns to make the adjustment..

My "quiver" consists of two pairs of skis and I choose one for the day based upon conditions. The only time I have ever swapped skis mid day was after racing in the AM.

This will really be my first season with 2 pairs. Well a fat and skinny, I have a couple skinnys.

I have a feeling my Watea 94's are going to become my everyday skis and the Ripsticks will only come out on the really hard days.

Two pairs are always in the trunk so I never have to pick when I leave home. The tougher decision involves whether or not I should bring my touring gear or not which I will often due when there is a threat of wind hold or when I plan to do both lift service and side country slacking on the same day.

If that was the case, I'd still be on straight skis..

Ski a powder day with 2knees while he is tearing up the hill on his skinny / straight bump skis and then tell me otherwise.

I think you're both right. There are no magic skis that will make anyone a great skier who doesn't have the skill set. However, put a really good skier like 2 knees on pow skis on a pow day, let him dial them in, and my guess he'll ski even better and enjoy it more.
