As you mentioned, get rid of seeding and bring it back to natural bumps, don't have standardized jumping 'zones', shrink down the landing zones, make it more like man vs. nature instead of man vs course. I suppose that's essentially what a free skiing competition is. The scoring would be a helluva a lot more arbitrary and there would be a lot of sore losers, but overall it would be much more entertaining than what goes on now.

You have to come down for the sundown comps this year. While technically seeded, they are not conventional courses by any means. Varying pitches, different sized bumps, imperfect lines. Pretty unique as far as bump comps go, and they keep getting better.

JP is a trip to hang out with and knows how to have fun on the hill. Since none of us are going to compete professionally (except for Iceman) that's what it's all about.

My comments are more about attitude than skill. Hot Dogging, Freestylin', throwing yourself down the mountain with reckless abandon. JP seems like a rebel. That's what bump skiing was when I was growing up. Bumps were for guys like Glen Plake and JP. I bet those two would kill it at the bar together.

I totally agree. Plake doesn't drink anymore, however. Gave it up as he apparently had a "problem." I bet he would have been a fun guy to party with back in the day. Hell, I bet he's still fun to hang out with even though he doesn't imbibe.

That would be an interesting combination. One better would be also including a skier cross element. There would be a lot of ways to update the mogul comp for the new world. I remember when Moseley did the Dinner Roll trying to push the invert rule as far as possible. It seemed crazy that the once deviant bump skiing world led by the likes of Plake would make illegal the newest and sickest tricks. Bumps skiing is just too specialized which is too bad because it would lend itself really well to cross overs in other disciplines. Park skiing being a perfect match. We have already seen park skiing/riding matched up with Backcountry and extreme skiing. There is a lot of potential but perhaps the world of bump skiing is just too specialized at this point to make room for spicing things up and broadening its scope.

As far as WC goes, the only thing I might change is make the bottom jump a massive table, the hell with the bumps after it. They're just there for looks anyways.

One thing that I'd like to see, and have mentioned before, is a combined freestyle championship like there is for racing. Add in a slopestyle event (which I don't see why it isn't a FIS event yet,) halfpipe, skiercross and moguls. There will still be specialists, but it would be cool to see athletes crossover into the other disciplines. And then have a King of the Mountain every year where the top guy in combined freestyle and alpine, along with the top in each event (or runner up, in the case of the combined winner being tops,) compete in all 4 alpine and all 4 freestyle events for bragging rights. I'd love to see Bode in a halfpipe and sliding rails.

Combining it with the other freestyle events into a single event could get a little funky. Rails in the middle of a bump run? Could be interesting...
