I pre-ordered my lift tickets on Liftopia two months ago, based on the last two years I thought wed get a third great early season. I'd get to lap Exhibition and take suicide runs down showboat. If I'm lucky they might even have a few of those epic glades open. All that for $18.99. Well..............they had 14 trails open or 3.5 routs the top 1/4 of the mountain funneling into 2 routs down 3/4 of the mountain and were blasting snow all day long. There was a decent amount of skiers there but the six-pack ate through the lines. A lot of racers from the local high schools and some college teams were out racing. I think the racing crowd accounted for half the people at the resort today. Anyway, the conditions were hardpack-machine groomed that got icy pretty quick, I had to take refuge at the sides of the trails by 10 am. I lapped Lower Ridge and Chute-Village green from 8:30-1:00pm and than called it quits. Ate a quick lunch and headed over to Whaleback to cap off the day.

Were they blowing snow on Exhibition or anywhere over on Spear?

They were making snow on the extreme lower part of Exhibition, and the run out over at spear. I talked to a employee on the way up and he said Exhibition should be open by next weekend and snowmaking on spear will start as soon as they get all the trails off the six-pack open. I would think they'd want a run or two over there over Christmas vacation so I don't know exactly how reliable that guy was.
