Trip Report:
First trip to Ragged and I have to say it was great. Pulled in around 10am to blue skies, little wind and - bonus - still parked in the second row. After my son and I popped on the gear, we took a quick ride on the six pack and took our first turns of the season down Blueberry Patch, Upper Chute, and Village Green. Snow was packed powder, but very easy to turn on. Did this twice and then we regained the ski legs. Village Green is a wide open green, but nice and long. Plenty of decent turns to be had. Lower Ridge was a fantastic blue. None of the blacks to the skiers left from the six pack were open yet.
The six pack is very fast. Loved it.
Spear Mountain was still closed. The guy at the ski shop said they are looking to open up the Turnpike, Jughandle and Cardigan greens on Saturday (they have been blowing snow there for the last two days). They were turning the lift a bit. Oh boy. Did that look slow after riding the six pack. Reminded me of the small 3 person lift next to the fast quad on Attitash's Bear Mountain. Someday, perhaps they will replace it.
Also, a lot of snow was blown and waiting to be groomed on the still closed Lower Exhibition. The snow guns were lined up on Upper Exhibition and were being worked on all day. My guess is they try to open this for Saturday too.
Run of the day - Upper Ridge to Headwall, to Lower Ridge to Pines. Great mix of green, blue, and black. Upper Ridge was a little scratchy as it was exposed to the wind but the rest of the trails held snow all day.
Saw the two man made cliffs on the terrain park. Looked to be fun for the boarders - when it opens.
A very fun mountain and I highly recommend it to anyone looking for a Liftopia deal on a midweek day off.
Also, on another thread it was debated about the best way to Ragged. I chose exit 23 to 104. More time on the expressway, less on NH roads. 104 was in good shape. Also, I passed by the end of New Canada Road. Yikes. That looks like a day in the shop for your suspension if you choose to take that.
