Armed with the knowledge that there was no freshies within a month of my last outing to Ragged, I remained in bed until 8 o'clock this morning. So I did not arrive until ten o’clock but got a sweet parking spot at the top of the second lot.

It wasn’t cold (low 30’s) but the sun never came out which is probably a good thing because it would have made some areas sloppy.

It was moderately crowded with a High School race on Village Green (I counted 12 buses) but the Six Pack handled it nicely with maybe a five minute wait in line. There was never a wait for the Spear Triple (although its a 12-13 minute ride).

Birches had the best snow. It almost skied like fresh natural in spots. Grooming remains a quandary this year because they leave these huge drop offs with massive icy boulders on the sides that just seem so dangerous.

Showboat was a bit wider than the first time I skied this season and with turnable snow all the way down, even on the steepest portion so it was fun for several runs. I was a little put off by folks bringing their kids down Showboat. While I like seeing little kids ski it grates my nerves to see them snowplow down steep slopes! Why? Why? Oh, why do parents feel compelled to bring their littlest children down black diamond runs is just beyond me.

Grooming on Showboat is perplexing because it ever snows enough to open the other side there are so many chunks of ice scattered about as to make it a mine field to ski .... but it may not matter ... doesn’t look like it gonna snow until April.

Flying Yankee only had a portion taken up with training gates and the narrow pass to get by these gates was scraped a little clean by the snow plows. Other than that Yankee was its usual wide open cruiser self.

Newfound Ridge and Lower Ridge were a little uneven with randomly scattered piles of snow and scraped off patches so I only took a couple runs each on those.

I did not ski Exhibition (except to get to Birches) or Wildside.

Cardigan Turnpike remained closed but it looks like they still working on it. Although their web site shows no snow making activity or grooming taking place there. The Ravine glades may never open.

All in all it was a fine day and I can't wait to go again. Just wish it would snow. 8)

I was just logging on to post a quick report on Ragged today when I saw you'd beat me too it.

I'm very impressed with the amount of snow they've made - much better than a few weeks back. Things got pretty scratchy towards end of the day but give the area lots of credit. Nice day.

Sorry Angus didn't mean to beat you to it. I started typing as soon as I had my ski clothes off.

Btw Ragged is making snow on Cardigan Turnpike. They had a photo on their FB page. Funny thing - Cardigan and Turnpike are listed as separate trails.

Don't get me wrong. I really do - most of the time - get a charge out of see little tikes barreling down the mountain with the parents yelling "Turn! Turn!"

Its just that these little snow plows scraped a section of Yankee clean and after seeing one kid after another snow plow down Showboat I got a little worried they would do the same thing there. Three weeks ago when they first opened Showboat that steep chute was narrow and hard as nails. I normally love skiing Showboat but not under those conditions. As it was it stayed turnable until at least 3 o'clock.
