My attitude going into today was, "what the hell, only a few more weeks left. I don't care if it's raining."

Woke up to some fairly magnificent thunder, was cloudy with some rain here and there until I got up to about exit 5 on I-91 in VT. Half the day in sun, half under clouds. Not the best T-shirt skiing conditions, but pretty darn close.

Kinda ticked off that I bent my pole at around 2; my feet at that point were in no mood for either a walk to the parking lot and back or taking the boots off and putting them back on again. And now I'm ticked off at Northern Ski because when I went there to get replacement poles the guy lied to me, telling me that the cheap poles had a yield strength of something like 35ksi and the higher end ones had a yield strength of 92ksi. I had a feeling something wasn't right (92 ksi is in the range of Al-Li alloys,) but they were half off and there's a 1yr warranty. Don't care about that, they're getting their poles back next week.

It was pouring rain at 7:30 . . . really hard.

Hit the slopes at Mount Snow (despite Mamaspices Yankee Avatar) at 9:30. The rain stopped and the sun started to tease us with her presence.

Bottom line: With SPF50 on my face, I still got sunburned today!

And amazingly the snow conditions didn't turn to mashed potatoes until the afternoon.

It's a bummer that the forecast was so off for the resorts. It was a perfect spring skiing day. They don't get any better this.

I love spring skiing!

I was psyched for anyone that went out skiing today. We hit about 72*F here and mostly sunny skies. A bit breezy, but overall, a great spring day.

Piss me off... I stayed home this weekend due to the forecast...Not many more days left, I should have just gone.

Wrong decision unfortunately. The weather folk screwed this up big time.

Time for some composites, brotha!

Heck, it was 75* in Burlington today when we walked the trail at Sessions Woods! Yup, turned into a beautiful day in spite of the thunderstorm in the early morning hours. Weather guys really screwed up.

Hoping to head up to Mt. Snow tomorrow but it's still kind of up in the air.

I bet the Hunter Season Pass Holders are PISSED!!!

I feel real bad for them. Dick move by the management announcing closing early week when they were scheduled to be open.

Well, to be honest, the upper lot at SB never even came close to being full today. I got there at 10am and was able to park in B-Lot. There were no lines at all....some locals did come out this afternoon, but it was dead. Most folks did not come up because of the forecast. So I bet that the Hunter folks would have done the same. Now if I was a local passholder at Hunter, admittedly I would be pissed as well. But it did not appear as if many folks took advantage of the change in weather....

Kind of a different scenario with Hunter than SB though. Hunter's got what? 16 million people within a two hour drive? If I woke up and saw at 8 AM that it was going to be a good day, I'd be on the lift at 10:30. Sugarbush is far more a destination area. If I lived in Boston, I wouldn't wake up seeing good weather at 7 and make the slog up there.

Mainly it's just the principal I was jabbing at in my post. Hunter declared they would close when they were scheduled to be open because of the forecasted deluge. The deluge never happened. I imagine they alienated a number of customers with that short sighted call.

I think this sums it up nicely.

Much local chatter about it at Belleayre today.

That is true. I guess they just did not want to take the risk....but they could have waited a bit longer before pulling the plug.

From my post on the SkiMRV board:

For those that canceled coming up, because of the forecast...

DON'T EVER DO THAT AGAIN!! :-o

Just a great day... and we're running out of them.

Get them while they're here. Skiing will be very limited in July. :???:
