Well 99 out of 100 people's preference is to not do that and they go somewhere else other than Burke to ski groomers.

Fuck it man, you're right. Let's just close down all the mountains that aren't a major resort.

Don't you have a pass to Dartmouth? Same fucking thing. Might as well shut it down.

Again, in the right hands it could become a moderately successful place like a Saddleback. Like a Saddleback, it probably will need an investor that's got a passion for that kind of place and not looking to become Bob Katz rich.

Have you ever even rode there? It's a really good mountain. Better than Loon and WV by a long shot when they have the snow.

But you do you Captain Contrarian. You must be a blast to hang out with at parties.

That's undoubtedly the photo that hangs above his fire place. That he stands and stares at with a gas fire burning and sipping on his over priced pappy van winkle that he bought on the secondary market to sound cool to his millionaire buddies.

Wait, I'm the contrarian for saying a place that has never had robust visitation and went bankrupt three times doesn't have robust visitation and is a bad investment? Ok guy.

I would say you should check out Dartmouth sometime, because if you did you would see it literally packed with families and kids having fun pretty much daily after 2pm and every weekend, but you really work the asshole vibe and wouldn't fit in.

Hey, with the weird liquor laws in Utah and price controls, we can get Pappy Van Winkle at a relatively low price. ;)

It’s about an hour between the two.
This. Anyone who says otherwise is delusional or drives like an asshat.

No way he’s ever been to Burke. The comment about all the kids and families at Dartmouth was the final tell. Burke is bustling with kids and families. And I’m not even considering the BMA programs.

The argument is that Jay is only 20-30 minutes further than Burke, not 20-30 minutes from Burke. Burke is about 15 minutes from the Lyndonville exit. Jay is about 50. So Jay is about 35 minutes further than Burke.

More importantly, Jay is almost an hour closer to Montreal.

I wouldn't expect people to travel past Jay from Montreal to get to Burke. But as the population in greater Boston on up the 3 and 93 corridors to Concord continues to grow and grow and along with it the crowding at places like Sunapee and Loon becomes worse and worse, Burke should be able to build their business with the right marketing and investment in the skiing product. Just need the right ownership. It appears to be working for Saddleback. This is after being mothballed for half a decade. I see no reason the same thing can't happen at Burke.

There aren't enough families and kids having fun because the Skiway loses to the tune of $500,000-600,000 per year and would not exist without the college picking up the deficit.

From a marketing perspective, as much as I hate them, I'd put a billboard right off Exit 32. "Show up with your Season Pass from any mountain and ski 1 day for $50." Do the same campaign online with social media. When they redeem, give them a coupon for $75 to use another time. The problem with Burke is not enough people have been there to see just how good of a mountain it is. Get enough people to experience it on a Saturday and see what a better experience it is than the shit show Loon is and you probably build a more regular clientele. I think the year SB reopened, they were doing 3 packs for $149.
