I was in N. Conway today and I tried Woodstock Red Rack Ale. It is now one of my favorite beers. This is one of the first Red Ales that I've tried and I was thoroughly impressed. Has anyone else tried this beer?

Have tried neither the beer nor the style. What are you impressions? I'd like to try it.

I had some Killian's tonight, and it was rather amusing, the fact that Killian's tasted very light and watery to me.

Shows I've been drinking my share of heavy beer lately.

I'm not really good at describing the taste of beer. All I can tell you is that I like porters, stouts and IPAs to give you an idea of my taste in beer. The only impression that I can give you is that I thought it was fantastic (and yes much better than Killians).

I've not only tried Red Rack ale, it's what pours out of my skin if I cut myself! It has a good balance of malt and hops with flavors of caramel and toasted malt throughout. However, I will admit I'm a bigger fan of the Pig's Ear brown when I'm at the Woodstock Inn.

Here's what others think of Red Rack. http://beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/1251/4849/

Had a six pack of Lagunitas "Censored" Copper Ale last weekend. It was pretty darn tasty, no doubt, but the hang-over the morning after is, I think, where the "Censored" bit comes in. Like an icepick behind my eyes. Some beers will do that to me (Coors Light, for instance, approximately 1 hour after I have even 1). So, won't be drinking that again, and will probably avoid Lagunitas all together. Too bad- the beer was pretty tasty.

Hey ctenidae... back on the subject of home brewing... have you used generic brown bottles from beer you've bought or do you make a point to use the thicker walled bar bottles?

I didn't know if I'm going to be risking creating lots of little "12 oz grenades."

My apologies for hijacking the thread. On another hijacking note-

don't ever try the Brazillian beer Brahma- it tastes like the urine of its namesake.

We used Rolling Rock a lot (plentiful, if you don't mind the painted labels) and Molson even more (cheapest non-twistoff beer at the time). So yeah, we used a lot of green bottles.
I think we had a bunch of brown ones, too, but I don't remember what kind they were. I know we used some Weinstephan and Grolsch bottles, too.
FWIW, we never had one expode. Just make sure everything stays real clean, and don't over prime the bottles.

If you're in North Conway, you should drop in at Moat Mountain, who have an incredible porter. Best beer up there, I think. After that, it would probably be Pig's Ear brown over at the Woodstock Inn.

I tried the Pig's Ear and I liked it a lot. I think I enjoyed the Red Rack a little more though. I didn't get into Moat, but I do love a good porter. Maybe I'll hit that when I go to Tucks.

Had a Polygamy Porter while we were out in Utah, that was actually a pretty good beer.

Been into the Barleywines lately: Smutty is pretty good and the Shaws near me has Sierra Nevada's Bigfoot for the same price as pale ale!

so is tuckermans brew worth hauling up into the ravine this year or should i stick to what i know works, i couldnt get any last year.

Otter creeks multipack is awesome, marinade the steak in the stovepipe porter while you sip a copper, and finsh with a pale, rinse repeat again 3 more times!
