I have never been too resistant. We generally look at new skis every 4-5 years so typically we are buying into change. The advantage I had as well was the fact that I did not ski for about 12 years and my parent while cleaning out their basement donated my skis. :(

those 107's under foot to me are not "shaped"

The old Fischers are shaped like Taylor Swift.
The Nordica Vagabonds are shaped like Salma Hayek: Tip/Waist/Tail Widths: 137/107/125 (@177cm), Actual Turn Radius @ Specified Length: 20m (@177cm).

Let me see if I can list off some of the shaped skis I tried in the mid 90's when they were first coming out:

205cm Volkl P10 RS Super - owned these, too stiff, more than traditional sidecut, but not fully shaped. Insanely stiff skis.

208 K2 GS Race 10.0 - Similar to above, demo'd, fun ski

Salomon Prolink 1S and 3S - similar to above, fun skis.

163cm Elan SCX monoblock - got a free pair from elan when I worked in a shop. Cool to carve on, ran few different lift setups, still have them in the basement. Very easy to overski the sidecut and useless anywhere but the groomed. Keep meaning to mount them up for gaper day.

183cm Elan SCX monoblock RP - similar, a little softer, came with a EPB plastic plate. Skied them at the big Stratton trade demo and walked out of the binding at 11din during a GS turn.

188cm K2 Four - demoed, felt pretty dead and like you had to ski them from the back seat.

203cm Fischer RC4 RS worldcup with equalizer - demoed, with a tall metal plate. So sick to carve on after doing a bunch of GS on more traditional skis, but by no means a deep sidecut.

Do you keep a doc or spreadsheet with every ski you ever owned or demo'd? :)

First "modern design" skis I remember being on was in '95 or so at Killington. I was taking some multi-day ski clinic and on one of the days (mornings...) they put everybody on the Elan SCX skis. I remember being very suspicious of those skis due to their short length (163's?) and the crazy shape.

But then we finally got them to carve, which for most everybody was the first remotely close carved turn we had ever made... One of the magazine reviews at the time said "these will carve back uphill faster than a jackrabbit wearing cleats", and I immediately saw why. Wow.

As said above, they were completely useless for anything other then carving. So it took a couple more years for shaped skis to come around to the point that they were truly useful. They were easier to turn, but I didn't realize how much so until I took my old "straight" skis out in 2001 or so (I had been on "shaped" skis for two seasons or so at that point). I couldn't turn. At all.

To use the term loosely, I "skied" to the bottom, took my skis off, grabbed my regular pair and skied the rest of the day. When I got home, I tossed the old straight ones in the dumpster.

Hart F17 classics probably aren't the most "shaped" skis out there, but they sure are better than my rossi 7SK's which I had before. I bought the Harts 2 years ago, and unceremoniously retired the rossi's to the dumpster. Had I not been out of skiing for 15 years, I'm sure I would have had shaped skis much sooner. I'm not very nice to my skis, and they don't tend to last very long...!

In the race industry we went to them quick. 1998 Volkl P30s. 188cm for GS

I still make fun of anyone who skis on less than a 175.

After the K2 4s, and a several year skiing hiatus...I got back into skiing in early 2006, still on the 4s. I then snagged some Volkl Supersport 5 stars that were beat to death, then some Fischer RX8s (2 diff pairs), then Watea 78s, then finally some Line Prophet 90s in 2008. I replaced those last year with the newer version of P90s. Have demo'd quite a few other skis in the last few years but I keep coming back to my simple, do it all P90s.
