I use the same pair of skis all the time. I used to be extra careful about the conditions of the trails I went on, and then realized I was depriving myself of fun in the process. I'll still try to avoid obvious bare spots/rocks/etc., but a thin cover sign isn't stopping me. The skis can be, and have been, fixed. I'm only skiing a dozen or so times a year, so I might as well enjoy myself.

My previous skis are longer straight skis, so I won't use them at this point. Perhaps when I get my next pair my current ones will become rock skis. Generally, though, I just use whatever my latest ski is for a number of years and then get new ones when I feel it's time.

welt.. with the season as it is, im glad i took the time of make up a pair of rock skis that i like.. its now January, and i have been on the snow 8 times, and i have used my good skis ONCE!... With all the bare spots on the trails and rocks and crud, i find that im enjoying the season much more with the rock skis then i would if i had to worry about core shots in the good skis...

just need to put a new coat of spraypaint on them, and they will be back in business..

hope you all have found the same with your beaters

I think the best way to spice up a rock ski is to put the wrong color p-tex into the bottom... Just yesterday I put a stick and a half into my touring skis... Lots of snow on rocks to be skied this year.

i havent heard/ nor thought of that idea yet... however all my bases are black with the exception of my K2 Fugatives, and i havent mounted them yet, nor do i plan on tagging rocks with them.... but the stick and a half of P-tex.. i fully hear you on that one, i dripped roughly 3/4 of a stick 2 days ago, and that was just to fill the 'gouges', which only accoupt for about half the damage

I tune my own skis, so Its not like I have to pay 50 bucks every three skier days to keepy my edges sharp, and bases waxed.

.

Wow you need to make more friends in ski shops if you're paying anywhere NEAR that much for a wax and sharpen...I think I pay max $15...and thats right near killington...course I know the owner...but still I think regular custies..get like $25...its not stone griding....HA

Well with 6 days in these glorious conditions my new skis are starting to take a beating. If I get the 20+ days I planned on they may be rock skis by the end of the season. And with that logic, I might need to consider buying new skis at the end of this season for next season. Let's hope the wife sees it the same way... :argue:
