Looking at a few Rocker snowboards. Just curious if anybody has one or demoed one in the East? Any good on hardpack? Looking at several different brands. Ride got some great reviews for the Machete and DH2 while Burton got great reviews for their Custom V Rocker. I've been using Ride snowboards for a few years and am leaning towards the DH2. The Ride Machete and DH2 have the LowRize rocker which isn't as extremely bent like other rockers which I like. Burton has their Custom V rocker which is nice too. A different take on the rocker than Ride. Ride is completely flat binding to binding with rockers at the tip and tail. Burton's V Rocker has a rocker tip and tail and 1 in the middle. Not sure if I want to go rocker or stay with the traditional shape?

I would take a look at the new Lib Tech c2 Power Bananas. Those and Never Summers rocker boards put the rocker between your feet and have camber along the tip and tail contact points. Best of both worlds and would make them managable on groomers.

To tell you the truth though your rarely going to get to appreciate the rocker on the east coast. They are a freestyle pow riders dream, and certainly good fun, but for east coast riding, big mountain, etc camber is still where its at.

This is why I posted on here and KZone, to find out if they're any good in the East. I've heard that they weren't good on hardpack, but if you check out all the manufacturers websites, they make it sound like they're the greatest thing that's happened to snowboarding (and skiing) and they would be great on any terrain. They even say they're great on hardpack. I've found reviews from snowboarding magazine and several other reviews on Youtube good and bad so who knows?! Money is also a bigggggg question as I'm not really looking to spend $500+ on a new snowboard when I can get a traditional shaped leftover from last season for 50-70% off! Lots of tent sales around the next couple months especially Columbus weekend...

Then save your coin and buy one of last years cambered boards. Of course the manufacturers say their stuff is great. Rocker boards really are great if you like to jib around in pow, but if you want to do anything technical, or just rock ice coast groomers, then you are much better off without rocker.

This is not to say rocker isnt fun on a groomer, its just that camber is better for the east coast.

If you get 500" a year and like to butter off hits into switch backside 5's rocker is better.

Get an old snowboard, a heat gun, and a small block of wood or something and do it yourself.

My son fell in love with Bataleon snowboards, http://www.bataleon.com/en/tbt

Seems like a similar concept. I started to learn to snowboard a little last year (read: I made it down the mountain alive) and after going down once on a rental board, I tried his, and it sure does feel allot different.

i've ridden a Batalion Hero for years. killer board. i like it more than a rocker in that it tracks well fast, and holds an edge really well... powder wise, they opted to think like a boat keal instead of a surf board...

Never heard of Bataleon, but that's a pretty cool concept. I'd like to check one out, but who has them in stock? Anybody near Killington?
I think I'm leaning towards the traditional base shape from everything I've read and posts made here and KZone. Also, I can get a new leftover from last season for less than 1/2 price.
I'd love to try one of those Bataleon's though after checking out some of the videos...

P.S.: Unfortunately, rental boards, boots and bindings blow. I think what Burton uses for their learn to ride program are nice though. I hope they didn't use Switch step-ins on your rental? They're horrible! Stick with it though! You already got through the worst part, the first day. You really progress fast after that...

They let you cut a line insanely well, feels a whole lot different. One big thing I recall talking to one of the reps was, don't, for the love of god, ever put it thru a machine. They're not flat, and the machine ends up really putting a screwed up edge on them. Since they're not flat, if it tries to put an edge on them, the actual edge that hits the snow will now be different. Machines CAN do it, but need to do it a special way, and usually the idiots running 'em won't bother.

I'm looking around, I seem to recall they'd actually send a demo board to any dealer who requested one.

Well, if your interested, I sent em an email to find out about the Demo offers I seemed to remember, here's his response:

Hey Thomas

Thanks for the Bataleon support over on the right coast, much appreciated. If you want to put the demo-requester in contact with us directly, we'd love to set him up with a board so please feel free to do so.

*further stuff asking me about my sons board deleted*

I'd recomend anyone who hasn't tried one to take him up. I'm by NO means a regular snowboarder, but I really liked the feel of it. And my son will never go back. :-D

that Bataleon board does look funky. i was going to try the bananas this year. i met a guy last year at the magic mt. with a few years old mtx board. i asked him how he liked it. he said he would not go back to anything else. my other friends told me that it took them a bit longer than normal to get used to. the banana's are supposed to be awesome if you spend enough time in the pipes and the parks. so i think your riding style is a big factor. i know some people who mostly ride for speed rather than jibbing telling me that they were selling their bananas.

I looked at some Never Summer boards this weekend at Out of Bounds at Killington that combines both Rocker and Camber. Pretty cool boards. They'll have Demo's this season so I think I'll give them a try along with other companies and stick with my current board for the season. If I like something I'll see if I can buy it on sale later in the season like March...
