I don't live in Maine anymore....my folks still live there so when I go home I usually go to Sugarloaf as that is where many of my friends families have places and I can easily pass by it if I want to take that route home. When I started riding in the 90's Squaw was closer and believe it or not cheaper.....15 bucks for lift tickets or 250 for a seasons pass.

This actually makes a lot of sense. A lot of people have become so entrenched due to the growth that occurred at SL 20+ years ago.

On a side note..Rt. 4 is greatly improved. Maybe easier to get to than SL from points South these days...

This talk gets me to thinking of doing the trifecta on the ride home, did Sunday River and Sugarloaf 2 or 3 hours each on the same day 3 years ago while heading home for Turkey day.

That's an interesting idea..if your there for 8:30 sharp you could make it happen and still get 4+ hour in...

8:30-10

11:30-1

2:30-4

I like it.....

When I did Sugarloaf and Sunday River in the same day it was a perfect day out as well. Sugarloaf had 1 or two trails off from the Sugarloaf Quad and they were perfect...Sunday River had a couple as well, but there was a few water bars showing. I will have to see what the wife thinks of this idea Maines big 3 in one day, I am guessing I might be doing this on my own next year....haha.

Bangor and the state's woodlands
My guess is, from the Bangor region, that some of it is the economics of driving...in addition to the bad economy up here. Country roads make it ~30mi less to Sugarloaf...but in addition..Wednesdays @Loaf are $30 for state residents...and Saddleback scheduled their Men's day($35) on Wednesdays as well.....their residents days are on the 1st day of the month.
Think if they were to make their Men's days on Tuesdays or Fridays, or even do some sort of rotating day schema.....they might get more traffic...from the East.
_______
**If one were to start out at Sugarloaf, down to the River, then on to Shawnee Peak @night(as Terry can verify)...no lack of good skiing.
***wa-loaf, owners at Eaton have had electricity problems...have not opened, and as far as I know are not planning to open this season.
