Date(s) Skied: March 20, 2010

Resort or Ski Area: Saddleback

Conditions: Spring Conditions

Trip Report: Stellar spring day at Saddlback. Day started off a bit firm when we clicked in around 9AM, but it quickly went mashed potato city as temps climbed into the 50's. The bumps were super soft and by the end of the day getting car-sized in spots!

Saddleback still has plenty of snow. We hit the mini snow field at between the top of Wardens Worry and Frost Bite. I stuck my pole all the way in, and then my whole arm. 6 feet of cover people! Woods are still deep although the skied funny. Lots of pine needles / bark in the troughs of the moguls made for some interesting textures underfoot.

That being said, a few trials were starting to show some spots. Tops of Wardens Worry and Frost Bite you had to dance around a bit, the Governor headwall and the typical ledges on Upper Jane Craig and Professor. Entry into Upper Nightmare glade was thin a bit but got good once you were in.

But overall all kinds of snow for the AZ'rs heading up Friday, and hopefully you guys will have some fresh stuff to play with Friday at Saddleback and at the Loaf during the weekend. We will be at Saddleback for the weekend probably so I will miss you but enjoy!

Some pics:

Seeded moguls on Tight Line. I am pretty good at the natural trail moguls - but I stink at these. They come at me too fast.

Snow still plenty deep in Casablanca

Ripping up Black Beauty. Probably the ROTD. Bumps were just right and super soft.

:-o Looks like they know what they are doing with the bump seeding. Like the setup with the air after the bumps. Bit too crowded though .

One thing I forgot to mention is that it was another busy day. It was the telemark invasion, plus a big MARA race and a good public crowd. Long lift lines from 10-1 but then it thinned out considerably. I think everyone started hitting the deck and the bar. :)
