Parked off of rt.49. water was running too high to cross stream so crossed bridge on 49 and bushwacked back to sandwich mtn trail. nice trail with only a few steep spots and with leaves partially gone - upper slopes of WV were available as well as welch-dickey. stopped at jennings peak - really nice granite ledges. onward to summit of sandwich dome/mountain. great view to the north. lots of fresh moose droppings all over the summit! traces of snow and ice on the ground - more clearly visible to the north. came down on the drakes brook trail which is longer than sandwich mtn trail by 0.7 miles but definitely not as steep and rocky which was good because it rained a bit. very nice hike and would highly recommend. the amc book references the moss forest which is spectacular.
