Date(s) Skied: January 15, 2007
Resort or Ski Area: Shawnee Peak
Conditions: Powder to Frozen Granular - Temps low 20's all day.
Trip Report: - Shawnee Peak missed out on the snow today. It snowed most of the drive up but turned to a sleet-fest around 11AM. They did get a couple of inches of snow on the ground before the sleet started so it put down a nice covering to the very hard pack underneath, and made the skiing quite enjoyable. Fortunately it stayed mostly sleet until we left around 5:30pm and the freezing rain stayed away for the most part.
We skied all the blues and greens mid-mountain down from the quad, and all the open trails had nice coverage - no thin spots. And the couple inches of snow they did get made the skiing quite nice. It got scraped off towards the end but it wasn't a big deal - my kids did great! I am having to ski harder to keep up with them!
I took one run from the top. Skied the blue trail down - still good cover but was pretty icy. They really needed the snow Sugarloaf and Sunday River got today - but they didn't. Hopefully the next one will! Its a great family mountain and we had a great time today. Not a whole lot of people there today so we had wide open trails and lifts all day. Conditions are still good and the with cold weather this week they can make some more snow. Well worth the trip.
