Trip Report: Headed up to Shawnee Peak for some night skiing. Nice evening weather wise. The wind really kicked up around 7pm for about 15 minutes, but calmed down after that. So overall a comfortable evening.
Shawnee has quite a bit more snow then they did 2 weeks ago. Pineslope was open treeline to treeline. They put a 4pm groom on the mountain so all the trails were pretty fresh when we started skiing around 5. We tackled some new trails with the kids today. After last weekend hitting Sugarloaf blues, the kids confidence has gone way up and they were ready for some Shawnee Blacks. So we hit Headwall and Parmalees and the kids did fine. They are starting to become little dots way ahead of my wife and I as we ski.
Most of the trails had excellent coverage. The only real slick spots we found were at the top of Headwall. they had the right side of the trail roped off so people were all turning and stopping at the same spot for 20 yards or so. First time I hit that I was going pretty fast and thought I was going to go flying through the ropes. Jack Spratt was slick the first time down so we stayed away from that one the rest of the day.
Shawnee at night is great. $22 gets you up to 6 hours of skiing on a lot of terrian, no lift lines and wide open trails. We are probably going to go again next Friday night with some people at work. Can't beat it!
