To tell the truth, I was beat by 2pm! A lot of other people must have been too, since I saw a lot of them bailing about that time.
You just get this hardpacked, carved, ice skate skiing in and you get really good at it then.... you forget what powder is; you spend the rest of the day pushing it around instead of working it. Kills ya. Don't tell anyone, but I was secretly wishing for packed conditions so I could go Mach 3 again....

Where?

Hi Skidbump

Where did you go? Just curious. I'm across the river from you in Highland. I went during the blizzard too and had trouble with the powder as I went at night and it was all pushed up into piles. Challenging to deal with.

Trailboss,

Thanks for the welcome. I've been reading for a couple of months.

Skidbump,
I also have no problen in 4 inch powder, but this powder was deep. I go to Bellayre once in a while, I think they'll probably have it groomed up by tomorrow.Hoping its groomed and packed powder for the weekend,
Thanks and have a good time.

I love it!

There is really no way to ski powder. You should call me. I will sacrifice my body to skier-groom it for you. I only have your best interests at heart. Really! Trust me!

I was on chair 7 yesterday and stopped around 3:45. Well, I was going for another run, but the last chair on that side of the mountain was put on wind hold between the time I got off and when I got to the bottom.

And I did ski today. I was hurting from yesterday, but would gladly have traded another powder day for the (really nice) groomed, today.

As for it being hard, yesterday... I ran into one of the ski patrollers at the bush. He told me that the clinic was full and they were pulling people over from Mad River. If you can do it, it was great fun. (You had to see the people yelping and screaming!) If you can't... call me.

Bellayre

Skidbump I did Bellayre yesterday (Thursday) with my 21 year old daughter. I haven't been there in at least 15 years, but I had a freebie from a ski expo and bought a second freebie voucher from someone in the lodge who had an extra (for $20). Two people for $20 is a WINNER. It was cold and windy until about noon, but the sky was gloriously blue and there were still some untracked lines near the edges and as much as 12 to 18 inches across some of the wooded areas. They had only groomed half of the Double Black next to the top of that long lift to the east of the upper/main lodge and none of the other doubles. It was fantastic. The bumps were soft and deep and a rip to work. I kind of like the fact that the average "advanced" skier dreads more than a couple of inches of powder. It leaves more of the deep stuff for me! Skidders need to realize that they have to get in shape in order to actually enjoy the stuff that makes skiing possible; I mean real snow! Check out the thread on the Edge Machine, beat someone to the deal that somebody is offering, and then use it. You don't actually need something as fancy as that, but you do need to seriously work at conditioning. You won't complain about "deep" and will start to look for "steep" after you get into shape. Groomers will then become runs that you ski to rest and cool down on while looking for more of the above. BTW, "overturning your tails" is a problem that I have had to deal with too at times. The solution (as nearly always) is to "get out of the back seat" and keep your weight forward just as if you were on the groomed. I know it seems counter intuitive, but it works?
