So I took a spill yesterday. I was night skiing at Mountain Creek, I didn't see a random mogul at the end of the run. I hit it straight on, landed on top of another mogul which shot me forward, tips down into yet another. (There were three right in front of each other.) Double ejection, Yard sale. I flew quite a bit and lander on my shoulder, hitting my head a few times as well. Thank goodness I was wearing a helmet. Anyhoo, it looks like I tore my AC and my CC which connect my collarbone to my shoulder and arm. I was just looking at it in the mirror and it looks like an inch of my shoulder is gone. In addition, there is a huge lump on shoulder where my collarbone is sicking up. The doctors at the emergency room put me in a sling and gave me tons of painkillers. I will be seeing an orthopedic surgeon tommorrow as the doctors at the E.R. say I probably need surgery.

Needless to say, I'll be out for quite a bit. I'm hoping to be back on the slopes by President's week if all goes well. I'll find out more tomorrow.

Wear a helmet folks, I could be much worse right now if I hadn't.

This is a "Type Two" shoulder separation. The doctor said it's more like a "Type 4 or 5" in which the coracoclavicular (CC) is torn as well.

Thanks guys. I'm pretty sad about it, but i'll manage. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that I will be able to ski towards the end of the season. I'll find out soon enough. I've already skiied enough on my ASC pass to break even so I literally won't be adding insult to injury.

Funny thing is, that this was my 13th day out this season. On the way up I was thinking about it and joking with myself that I should take it easy. Guess I jinxed myself. :-?

I've recieved 2 minor injuries over the past week.

First is the wrist. I can barely move it and it hurts to even pick up anything. The bone is sticking up more than it should be. I'm afraid to have it checked out at the doctor as I don't want to miss out on any ski season if I don't have to. If it gets much worse, I'll go, but I plan on waiting until April.

Other is a tweaked back. I was going over a box at Wachusett and my left ski slid off. When I tried landing, I was leaning way to the left and the upper half of my body was still straight up. I probably twisted it in a way it's not supposed to.

Two consecutive ski days have aggravated my bike injury from September. Wrist hurts like mad, especially if I hold anything for an extended period.

Truly an injury-heavy season for us here. Hope it's not as bad as it could be, Beano.

BeanoNYC, got your pm and responded. I'm telling ya snow shoes. Get better.
This is a bad start. Many small and some big injuries this season.
My ribs kept my turns at a minimal this weekend. I haven't been able to sleep cause they hurt, that has let to a miserable cold. I hurt every time I turn left.

Bummer Beano. Get better soon! At least my ski season is on hiatus for a good reason.

Wow, the thread sounds like when I used to run calls to nursing homes, all the old men comparing their ailments...

Ok, now that I've made an enemy of everyone on this thread... :dunce:

Get well soon. Skiing is not worth risking any long term injuries.

I was fortunate I did not injur myself yesterday at Snow. I was going down a trail with a significant amount of soft snow, fortunately, that was all that saved me. I launched off a drainage berm, crossed my tips which probably looked cool until I didn't get them all the way back when I landed. I face planted and slid, double eject, but hung onto the poles. Bumped my lip a bit but not enough to do anything. If the snow was anything like the rest of the mountain I could've been hurt far more seriously. Serves me right though.

Get that checked out now.

That sounds an awful lot like what happened when I broke my wrist, and the doctor said that I would be lucky if I didn't need surgery (which, thankfully, I didn't). I would've felt a bit silly had I needed surgery, as I had been playing lacrosse with the wrist injured for a couple of weeks until I got checked right on the wrist in practice and it suddenly started hurting a lot more. The pain mostly went away as long as I didn't try to do anything strenuous (such as moving a computer mouse), but I decided that it warranted a trip to to the hospital, which led to x-rays and then subsequently the appointment with the orthopedic doctor who raised the spectre of surgery and put on a cast up to the middle of my upper arm.

(Then again, he may have just known that he needed to scare me sufficiently to keep me from trying to use it, as he had a history of working with athletic types.)

I was at ascutney last weekend as well, and yes and it was pretty icy. The only way to get down avoiding the ice was to go down the locally named "crowded trail" or cloudspin. The lower half of the mountain was nice packed powder thoough. Really wierd with the differences in snow conditions from the top to the bottom.
