NBC reports Vonn ready to go. "manageable"

Riding with NBC Alpine analyst Steve Porino on the chairlift up to the top of Franz Run (the women's downhill course) on Thursday morning, Lindsey Vonn shed some light on the pain in her shin, saying that it is "manageable," but still bothersome. Vonn looked slightly hampered as she put the boot into the ski binding. Her husband Thomas was by her side at the bottom of the hill, adjusting the boot and helping her fine-tune the details.

Vonn needs to put in at least one training run in the next three days to qualify for Sunday's super-combined. With weather very unpredictable - snow delayed the start of the run, and more is expected - she seemed intent to get the logistical part out of the way today, no matter what the discomfort. A meticulous planner, she also wants to prepare herself for a possible run at a medal. "I just want to work things out, get a feeling for the course."

An interesting note that she first shared at the press conference yesterday in Vancouver, was elaborated on during her ride with Porino: To help relieve the pain, she turned to a traditional German cure: cheese and vinegar, which she applied on her shin. The "edible anaesthesia" was suggested to her by one of her Red Bull physiotherapists.
