with the sales about to start i'm giving serious consideration to expanding my single-ski quiver to include a 100mm+ fatty.

i've been skiing on 170s for a few years and think that is the right size for me on an everyday ski.. i hear you go longer when you go fatter...

@ 5' 8" and 200 lbs (25 more than i'd like, thank you very much) would a 180ish fat ski be about the right length?

other considerations.... rockered/ early rise (def go longer), stiffness/metal, camber, ...? The feel of each ski is different... I feel like I can get my 186 fischers atuas @ 96 underfoot around quicker in tight trees than my 176 elan m666's @ 76 underfoot.

But yeah, 180ish sounds like a good ballpark if you're used to a 170 groomer ski.

i don't have a particular ski in mind.. just going to see what pops on the sale lists and try to find something fat and cheap. something for the occasional pow day that happens once or twice a year in NE. imagining something like a fat twin tip.

Very similar situation, I went to 179 for twin tips, I won't go shorter again.

Depends on the characteristics of the ski....

Twin tip or rocker? Go longer. If not........ well, it depends!

Any one that says fatter = longer is not credible, IMO. There are a LOT of factors to consider...

DEMO!DEMO!DEMO! It's worth it to take a few pairs out of various length and chubbiness and test them out on what you ordinarily ski, conditionswise and terrain wise for most of the season.

Like others have said it depends. If you are only going to use them to ski big lines in powder then longer. If you'll use them in other conditions, tight eastern trees you for example, you can stay around 170.

If it's next seasons Zero it has an early rise rocker tip and tail. Go longer then usual cause of the contact points.
