...but have you skied Superstar in like late may?? It can easily be three trails...ski headwall...take skis off and walk a a little...ski the mid section...take skis off...walk a little...ski the bottom portion...take off skis and walk to lift...that makes 3 trails....

Now that's fair. Just providing the facts and not alluding to any misrepresentations.

Kmart open the door for comparison shopping tactics. For the record, I'm not justifying what Okemo did.

I don't look at trail counts or % of trails, I look at miles and acres. Here there is no competition and Killington is drawing attention to that. Good job Dave!

i understand what you are saying and i dont dispute that. what i'm saying is that killington exaggerates their own trail count and pumps it up as a huge marketing point. Now what killington does is more subjective exaggerating and okemo appears to be outright lying but in my book, they're both being dishonest.

in the end i dont really care what they say cause like most who post here, i dont believe most of what i read on a ski area website anyway. i read tr's from members and go by my past experiences to determine where i want to ski.

You are correct, I depend more on TRs than snow reports also. However I do have to give K some kudos here,

  • They have been doing a nice job communicating, honestly, what is happening via Kzone
  • They did put up that Web Cam which gives us a nice view as to what is happening.
  • And management has stated that they will place thermometers on the mountain and giving live updates on there web page.
Keep in mind, they are a business, management's job is to get skiers to the mountain. However, I have seen great improvements on their part.

And HOW many angels can fit on the head of a pin?

Who cares. They're both blasting snow and doing their damndest to open as much as they can as fast as they can. The numbers change all the time.

If you love Killington, you'll go there. If you love Okemo, the same. These numbers hardly matter.

Gotta agree here. They have been doing a great job this season catering to us. Just wish we had more snow for Pico. But I've heard people :argue: about Killington and this season I have been :D and hearing many other :D things. The only :x has been the crowds....but they can't control the number of folks who show up. To their credit they were doing a good job patrolling and keeping folks under control as best as they could!

I think this kind of deceptive advertising is over the line. Ski resorts are already suffering from a loss of credibility as far as their marketing over the years. I have no problem kmart calling out Okemo but to do it this way is just plain wrong. I bet the site in question is gone by tomorrow.

trailboss and andyzee. I dont think either of you are getting my point. Its not about killington doing a "great job" communicating and "caring" about their customer. Its about being rather hypocrytical. they've been spinning snow totals, trail counts etc for longer then some of us have been skiing. Its just funny to me that they go out and create a childish website to refute something they would've probably done in the past. I'm done, cause i dont want to create any ill-feelings here. Its just a ski area. I go there alot myself and i give spinmasterk alot of credit for what he's done in a short time.

its all good guys.

The magic words here are done in the past. I truly believe they are striving to turn that around and I for one will give them the benefit of doubt. As far as ill-feelings are concerned, no way dude. It's a ski resort, not a personal thing for me. Just having a civil discussion, which as far as I'm concerned is the whole purpose of a forum such as this. So, when we gonna hit the bush? :)

Yes, a civil discussion it is. After spending a few years on other message boards, it's still a somewhat new concept for me over here.

the bush will have to be on the planner for sure.

Nah, on second thought, I take it back, marketing genius. Okemo can't win this one, and actually the worst they can do is answer it. K has enough terrain open so that any publicity is good publicity. So far the message has gotten out to at least 4 forums, great free publicity.

I agree- Brilliant for K, total loser situation for Okemo. They can't answer back. And Killington doesn't have to say anything.

Another thing to take into consideration; I enjoy it and think it's good for the skier. Not only will it force Okemo to think twice about such BS, others will have to think about it as well, Killington included.
