Resort: Ski Butternut
Date Skied: 01/28/06
Conditions: Sunny, about 45
Trip Report:
I had a chance to do some afternoon skiing today. It looks like most of the northeast also decided to. The parking lots were packed. I fortunately found one spot in the upper lot. As I looked at the three lifts in view, the TF, the Highline and the Overbrook, I decided to go with the Overbrook as it had the shortest line. On the way up I noticed a lot of new skiers out today and a lot of them falling at the bottom of Downspout. Most likely many of them came from the TF Quad so they did not get the chance to see what they were in for.
After going to the TF Quad for a 15 minute wait and the crowds on the trails (Applejack), I decided to stick to Overbrook for most of the day. The conditions were better and the snow was still powdery over hardpack. There were some small bumps that formed , but they were crowded by downed skiers and boarders, so I would just wait until they cleared out. Around 2pm this side of the mountain was clearing out partly because they shut down the lift for some maintenance. Thankfully it was temporary, about 15 minutes, but it seemed after that happened there was no more lift lines.
Overall it was a fun day, just a little crowded, but you have to expect it with the weather we had today.
