I got my Skiing last week, but no Ski yet. Last season they either came on the same day, or a day apart at most.

Anyone got their first copy yet?

I used to read both many years ago but found there was very little focus on the East Coast, so I dropped both subscriptions. I just buy the gear catalog each year.

Have they gotten any better recording the east coverage, and would you recommend one over the other?

Skiing usually has an East section in it. I don't know if they just do that here or if there's a NW section, a Rockies section etc...

Got Ski two days ago.

Yeah thanks, I finally got mine today.

Vinny, I can't say if they've gotten any better. They both have about ten pages dedicated to Eastern stuff in the back, and they don't seem to discriminate as much as they used to between East, and West in the resort ratings issues.

I just like the way they get my head a little closer to the sport, and I also get a bunch of free subscriptions through different venues, or respond to the incentive mailings. They both do a decent fleece blanket with their logo, and the cooler from Ski is pretty nice as well.

Considering the full year subscription can be had for seven, or eight bucks with a fleece blanket, I'd give 'em another shot, and decide for yourself.

Just got the new Powder. Great section on the new lines of skis. Hope to demo a bunch of fatties this season so I can pick one to keep.

Just got Ski today...been wondering when I'd get after all these posts.

Cool AM temps and some changing leaf color on my street (in Douglas, MA) has me thinking about skiing.

Co-worker has a place near Mt Snow. He was telling me he saw them doing maintenance on the lift over he weekend.

Summer is too short...and Fall's end to Ski Season is too long. :<

Yup, mine came in yesterday, too. Interestingly, they have more Dynastar skis than Skiing did. Something tells me Ski is a little more ad-driven in their testing. The reviews I cross-checked seemed to match up pretty well, though.

Actually got 2 copies- one I paid for, and one courtesy of Wachusett Mountain. Still haven't figured out how that one works.

Got mine yesterday. Looks like my skis made the cut. I'm still mystified by their classification. Last year the Rossi Z9 was classified in the AME Speed category but now it's in Aspiring Expert. Unless Rossi adjusted the flex, from the looks of it, it's still the same ski with different graphics.

I haven't gotten either yet. I don't subscribe to either one, but most seasons both show up anyway. Ski's more reliable than skiing. I'm pretty certain ski has shown up every year for the last 10 or so. Skiing about 7 out of ten.

Same ski...but they came out with the Z-11, a step above the Z9 and its got the goofy arms to change the flex...its a more appropriate model for the AME speed category.

I think that's the thinnest copy of SKI mag I've seen in years...they must be having some issues getting all those Rolex and Range Rover ads. Which skis are tested depend on what the manufacturer sends to the test...not on ad $$...don't be so jaded! There are only so many skis the vendors bring into the country for demo events...and they need to be split among at least 4 mag tests; Ski, Skiing, Ski Press, Powder as well as all of the reps who work for the company for industry on snow trade shows, consumer events, shop demos, etc in the north east, atlantic, mid west, rockies, pac n'west, etc and some of those events are bound to overlap...so not every vendor is able to get every model to every test. I worked with one of the guys in the SKI test and went to college with another...they try real hard not to play favorites to any one brand or be influenced one way or another. When it comes to the mag tests, best bet is to use them as a guide to help narrow your selection of what you want to demo...not as the final decison maker. As for the 2nd copy...if you do any NASTAR events at Wally-world, they give you a free subscription...so do some resorts for purchasing a pass.

I know, but Skiing goes to great lengths to explain why some skis make it and others don't. Ski, not so much.

The 2nd copy is odd, because I've never skied at Wachusett, and I've never bought a season pass, anywhere. Free stuff is great, don't get me wrong, but it's still odd.

I agree that the Z11 is appropriate in that category. In that case, Rossi should have 2 skis being considered in the AME Speed category this year: the Z11 and the Z9. I always believed that it was the construction that determined the classification. Now, if it's an attempt to give face time to both skis by splitting them to 2 different categories to boost sales, then that's another matter altogether.

I wonder what SkiPress has to say.

I was getting two copies of Outside at one point. I just called them up and told them what was going on and they just extended the length of my subscription. Might want to try that, at any rate you could probably get rid of the second copy that way. Unless you know a doctors office that can use them.

My free Ski says right under my name on the address label who its from. In this case Nature Valley Nastar, so I don't think it's just from Wachusett. If you've registered or skied Nastar at any point that might be your source.
