Resort or Ski Area: Ski Sundown

Conditions: Spring conditions, smashed potatoes

Trip Report: I'll make this quick. SB in an hour. First off, Powhunter sorry I missed you. I was with wifey and hit Toms and Canyon a few times. I didn't want to slow you down today. I figured I'd run into you at the top of NE but it never happened.

Great day. Clicked in at 12:30. The warm temps and sun made the conditions spring like. The bumps on Exhibition were excellent. The soft snow sure makes a gaper like me look good. Nor Easter bumps were nice and soft up top and firmer in the middle and towards the bottom. Very fun as well. Bumped into both Greg and Brian who were there with their daughters. Great to meet your girls. Two up and coming rippers. :)

Wifey had a great time today. She dipped her skis in for 2-3 bumps a few times. She now claims to be the Mogul Champion. :) I was very happy to see her give them a try. She claims she will never ski bumps. She'll come 'round.

Thanks for the report. I was really worried about the condition on the bumps after the recent weather. With any luck it will get cold enough to start blowing snow in time for Wed. nights gathering.

I was also at Sundown today (involved in the CYSL GS race) and although I was tied up most of the day with the race I did manage a few runs in the bumps at the end of the day, and they where creamy delicious! Especially on Exhibition.

Here's a few pics:

I want to go back after looking at that pic.

Lots of activity at the mountain today. Besides the races the radio station WEBE whatever had an event going on. The base area was a madhouse but the lift lines were reasonable for a sunny Sunday.

Awesome day. Abby and I got started around 12:30 and we skied for 3 hours with one break. 10 runs, 4 from the summit! We're almost done with Sunnyside I think. Abby did great. The soft snow on Exhibition made it very manageable for her. The bumps were making me drool. I dropped into the outer Ex bumps here and there, but today was a daddy/daughter day.

The Ex field is impressive. Significantly wider and longer. They are just about perfect right now. Nor'easter still looks like it needs some massaging, but there is definitely a lot of potential on what I could see of the lower section. If the forecast was better for tomorrow, I'd almost consider an afternoon session. Gotta save those for sunny days though.

Saw Brian and his daughter tearing it up on the magic carpet. Good stuff. Future rippers indeed. I put together a little video I'll try to post later.

Saw you, Greg, and Abby but you didn't see me. While Brian was ripping it up on the carpet with Maggie, I was walking around the base with Ethan on my back. I so badly wanted to get into my skis and go with her, but I was playing it by the rules and my pass is only good after 6PM. We were there from about 2:45PM-5ishPM (Maggie skied for about 1 hr).

The bumps on Ex are definitely looking nice. I watched some guys make some real nice runs down them (and some others who littered the bumps in their attempts...but who am I to talk? ;)).

Sorry I missed you and your wife, Grassi! Next time!

ETA: Just finished watching the vid, Greg! Nice job! She's progressing beautifully!!!! :D

Nice day to be out on skis. My daughter had a real good time, she's starting to understand that the skiing part of going skiing involves sliding down the hill. I think she had more fun riding the carpet though, that was her main motivation to ski down most times.

I had a chance to hit 2 solo runs in the bumps. I was happy, the NE bumps are really starting to form nicely. At least two decent lines in the upper section, the usual funkyness in the middle, the lower section had a decent line on the right and the middle was alright but I thought it was better the other night. I only had two runs though so it's hard to give it a fair evaluation. The EX bumps seem to be holding up really well. Some good turns to be had in there, even that funky deep trough with a sharp turn just past the birch tree was filled in a bit and much easier to ski.
