NEW HARTFORD, CT — On Sunday, November 14 at 7pm Connecticut climbers Chuck Boyd and Dave Watson will present a multimedia experience at Ski Sundown’s Lodge. The Connecticut climbers returned last June from a successful expedition to the world’s highest peak, Mt. Everest. Join the team as they journey through Thailand, Nepal, and Tibet moving from base camp, up the icy slopes, to the roof of the world. There will be a hands-on display of the equipment used above 8000 meters. A question and answer period will follow the presentation. Brief biographies of the presenters are:
- Chuck Boyd, one of Connecticut’s most accomplished climbers and guides, was part of the North Face sponsored expedition that made the first ascent of Shipton Spire in Pakistan. Chuck, along with Mark Richey, current president of the American Alpine Club, and Neil Pothier, made the first ascent of the East face of Cayash in Peru’s Corillera Blanca. He has also worked as a ski mountaineering guide in the Alps, Ski Sundown ski patroller, and climbed throughout Europe, North America, South America and Africa. He operates a guiding service out of Suffield, CT, and is a board member of the Ragged Mountain Foundation, a non-profit organization promoting access and stewardship of Connecticut’s high and wild places.
- Dave Watson of Southington CT, a climbing guide for EMS, is a very experienced climber and mountaineer, who has climbed extensively in North America including the Ruth Gorge in Alaska. He works as a ski patroller at Smugglers Notch VT, and is a member of the Karhu Ski demonstration team. Dave currently works as marketing rep for a company representing the Karhu line of equipment.
