oh ya of course talking heads songs at all the shows. im just saying that if i were to compare the setlists of the three shows, i would hope to find 1-3 unique TH songs in each show that were not performed in the others. maybe not tho. RCMH was like 65% heads and 35% new album or more recent solo work.

i also saw the david byrne x saint vincent tour, lets say 2011ish? and i saw him sit in with arcade fire, lets go with 2014ish.

i am really hoping we're closed on the house by nov 8. start making sense are playing at assembly kingston. they're a cover band but they absolutely nail early 80s era talking heads. it will be a big drunk party.

unfortunately this recommendation comes late as the east coast dates have now wrapped, but david byrne's current tour is really beautiful and amazing and is high up there on my list of all time favorite concerts. radio city music hall helps. 2+ hours non stop, entire 13 piece band is in constant choreographed motion (keys and drums are set up like a marching band with harness), giant video production the entire show, a narrative and theme. he is a national treasure. i dont know how many aging rock stars in their 70s can do that kind of performance.
Him and thom yorke are tied in my mind as the most influential artist of my lifetime. He really does continue to put out good stuff.

theres a song called everybody's coming to my house. it was the encore. before burning down the house. and it felt like a warm blanket. I was standing there thinking it's some obscure older head's song. buried in my subconscious, but not a song 'i know'. i was shocked after the show when i looked it up and realized it was written for this 13-piece band just a couple of years ago.

Back in the AZ Summit days, we were lucky to catch Start Making Sense one of the years. Got lucky with decent bands most years actually. Also saw Big Head Todd, Assembly of Dust and the Mallett Brothers x 2.

Maybe new AZ ownership (whenever it happens) brings the summit back.

yes on all. this is the 3rd iteration of that concept. i saw the show you saw at hershey at forest hills. then i also saw the broadway show, which was turned into a movie and can probably be streamed on hbo max. the new show takes the mobile band concept, but adds this massive level of video production, and a slate of songs from his new album which had surprising life in a live setting to a room of people who dont know the songs - the video aides helped a ton with that. i assume there were talking heads songs that were not performed at the prior shows but i am not sure. didnt matter. i can see those songs over and over. this was easily my favorite version of this concept. the videos and the theme added a ton to the show.

bicycle diaries is great and im due for a re-read. he's definitely still biking around on tour. he posted pics from philly no kings with his bike on saturday. ive spotted him zipping around the east village on his bike once or twice. the puff of white hair on the bike is unmistakable.

how music works is another byrne book which reads kind of like an anthropology textbook but is also cool.
That Forrest Hills show was a great night. Perfect night in September. I actually turned to a buddy and said this is like New Wave Broadway (even posted a pic on the socials with that caption) ... and then of course a few months later the actual Broadway run was announced. He was just down in Philly at the Met which is a nice room, but conflicted with the MMJ run at the Paramount

How was MMJ? Its been a few years since I've seen them. They always put on a good show.
I’m biased... as they are one of my favorite bands, but this tour they’re playing as well as I’ve ever seen them. And that’s going back to my first show at Webster Hall… which, interestingly enough, was exactly 20 years to the day of Friday’s show at the Paramount.

I think their new approach to touring... one year on, one year more limited (next year sounds like just a few fests), plus these regional sprints with a few days off in between, has really helped with their energy and playing. It’s just a great rock show, a frontman who plays the part , a super talented band, and some kick-as@ songs. They’re pushing things in new directions with the jamming, and Bo handling setlists the last few years has added a cool new dimension.

They did a Cobra into Metallica (Bells) back into Cobra into Dancefloors with Karina Rykman joining on bass during the Friday show. Was absurdly fun.

yeah they are one of my favorite bands. I didn't listen to them until right before the 2016 Lockn festival. they were Saturday night headliner and I was instantly hooked!

Paramount is a great venue. One of my best friends is owed favors by the production manager of the venue. Works nice. Fred again x skepta in June was an impossible ticket that we got walked in to thru the backdoor and then taken to a private balcony open bar area.

Gorgeous venue. I hadn’t been. Easy to grab drinks. Great sight lines. Solid sound. Staff was all super friendly. Really dug it.

As far as MMJ if you aren’t a Nugs sort, give any of the more recent live releases a listen. Vol 1-4 or go back to Okonokos which is an incredible live album.
