Driving to the mtn I'll go between the Sirius dead channel and indy station. Sometimes I'll put on pandora and start with lcd soundsystem and see where that takes me. Also Billy strings is a good morning channel. I don't usually ski with music

thats really lucky that your son likes real music

re: grohl - foo fighters are the opening band of a new venue in DC. it's a replica of the original 9:30 club, built next door to the current 9:30 club. it has a 450 capacity, and to celebrate 44 years of the 9:30 club, their first 44 shows are all $44 each and all feature bands who have no business playing teeny tiny rock clubs. foos are the biggest but there are some damn big names on this schedule for a 450 capacity club. grohl is a DC native. i went to college in DC so i have a particular interest in their music scene.

Try as I may, there's no interest yet in GD or Phish. That propaganda began in the womb. Though, I've been listening to a fair bit of Raq the past couple of weeks after seeing their two shows in town a few weeks ago. He's digging that, so maybe there's some hope he gets into more of my favorites. Forgot how good the album Carbohydrates is. There's a band I wish stilled toured regularly.

wow billy has his own channel? what number is it?

dude's career accelerated so bigly in the past year its crazy

his hawaii covid streaming shows with billy and the kids (kreutzman dead band with Aron from the biscuits and tommy from jrad) were scorchers. here's a 23 min Mississippi half step from those shows. tommy takes vocals but billy rips up an electric guitar here.

edit - its not a 23 min miss half step. there's other songs on there. miss half step and deal and jack-a-roe. just scanned thru. if you can find the entire show videos (they exist out in the ether). billy sings jack-a-roe starting at 17:04

edit2 - i just realized you meant billy on pandora. that makes sense. if there was a billy strings xm/sirius channel that would be a big deal.

lol raq at the stone church! i considered it for nostalgia. i've seen raq at the stone church circa 2007 or so.

michetti is the top realtor in naples florida. he slings multi million dollar homes. his facebook page is always like "ANOTHER MICHETTI DEAL CLOSED! 5M WATERFRONT PENTHOUSE"

if your son likes "rock and roll" type rock, raq may be a better gateway than the stoner laze of the dead or the prog nerd of phish. raq was a shreddy band at their core.

Not for nothing but if you guys are looking for old bootleg shows, forgotten dj mixes, weird radio shit etc...I would suggest soulseek. Yes that program from over 20 years ago that is still somehow going.

It's hard in this day and age to get kids to relate to your music. I was just having this conversation with a friend. It's sad but rock and roll is almost dead with this next generation of musicians. I did however run into this vid of a young lady in Vancouver that gave me some hope.

Good chance I was in that room. I've seen most of their shows there or any they did up in Portland.

I saw that from Chris and his Mercedes with the Shreddi plate. Haha. Good for him.

If you are ever passing through and see something on the calendar you want to catch, let me know. Club D'elf this past Saturday was predictably amazing

There's some absolutely fantastic videos from O'Keefe Music Foundation on youtube of kid's playing rock and roll. Here's a few of my favorites (although I could spend all night watching/listening to their videos):

Several of the former students from OMF have also gone on to start or join rock bands and some of them are enjoying a decent amount of success as well. Backhand Blue comes to mind as a group including former OMF students that has recently had airtime on Octane for example.

For nostalgia purposes, I present this old thread.

These days i mostly listen to audio books on my drives between Boston and the MRV, but on the mountain it is mostly punk adjacent music. When I'm riding with friends, I just listen to whatever is queued up so I don't slow them down, but when I'm on my own, I'll often pick out specific songs for specific runs. R.E.M. "Leave" is good on Ripcord. Wolf Alice "Silk" on Steins and "Bro's" on Paradise. The Linda Linda's "Stupid Racist Boy" after one turns the corner on Spring Fling.

Notably, when upper FIS kicked my ass last year, this Vaseline's song came on by itself:

I often listen to Henry Rollin's radio show when cooking dinner after a day on the slopes.

I lean way more toward the Dead side of town and nothing at all Toolish.

Somehow Sublime usually ends up in my car's cd player. yes I still use cd's in my car!

For apres ski I love hanging out drinking a beer at a bar and listening to something live, maybe acousticish.

I have only gotten into Tool in the past five years or so. My appreciation is really all about Danny Carey. Not that the rest of the band aren't talented in their own right, but Danny very well might be the best living rock drummer. Maybe the best rock drummer ever actually. Just astonishing

Danny's drum work on this song is pretty mind-blowing. Definitely love listening to and watching this one. It is in regular rotation in my youtube playlist that I'll throw on while cooking sometimes...

And Danny without a doubt should be in consideration for one of the top rock drummers of all time. No doubt about it. Rolling Stone ranked him #26 of best drummers of all time. I think that is way too low even though the list is more than just rock.

Neil Peart probably gets the most praise as best rock drummer. As incredible as he was, Danny impresses me more.
