Rock and Roll is alive now more than ever they just dont play it alot on normal radio stations.

And that's why I switched to SiriusXM. The NYC market had several rock station choices when I was younger. Now it is terrible with virtually no options other than Q104.3 for classic rock (and a couple smaller stations in NJ that you may or may not be able to get depending on where you are).

Nowhere now, but everywhere
Yup, exactly this. But there are only a few newer bands I like. 30 years ago there were 50 or more bands putting out music I liked and followed. Maybe I need to put more time and research into it. Radio made it much more easy. You got the sampling and then you knew what to look for. BCN, FNX, ERS and other college stations had specific shows that highligted up and coming acts.
You guys in NYC had CBGB's, probably the single best place ever for new music.
You should listen do the Rodney Bingenheimer Show on Sirius XM 21 - Underground Garage if you want to discover new music.

Agree with all that but for me it's Manchester in the 90s

I wish Sirius had better satellite coverage. I've tried, but the coverage positively sucks in Northern New England. Constant drop out due to the trees and mountains.

Yea...I can't really speak to Northern New England. I personally only come across 1 or 2 spots with issues on the routes I travel...both in VT and both pretty minimal. The first being in a couple spots along Rt 73 on the eastern side of the Brandon Gap and the other being in a couple spots going through the Granville Gulf on Rt 100. But even in both those cases it is usually only a few seconds here and there that it drops out.

Seems better going North and South than East and West. Maybe I'll try again. Been a few years, but I found the coverage on 89 terrible when I last had it. Couldn't make it through a song without drop out

I believe with your subscription you can also stream with the app, so as long as you have cell coverage you can listen to SiriusXM

I don’t have those issues in northern ME and VT ski country.

i tend to drive to podcasts and its often some pretty nerdy/wonky stuff.

i change it to xm23 as soon as i pull into a ski area parking lot so no one hears me booting up to ira glass or pod save America.

generally my xm reception is good in new england.

I don't do much driving on 89. No issues on 89 from 91 to Rt 107 that I recall the couples times I drove from the MRV to Boston. But I'm almost never on 89 any further north than that. Maybe only once or twice between Waterbury and Burlington...but that was a long time ago and not even sure if I had Sirius back then.

Yes...also an option as long as cell coverage isn't an issue in those same areas. I think maybe all their plans now include the free streaming access via the app.

I pay for spotify. I don't have a phone so I just download everything to my kindle and use that on the road. Probably could on the hill as well but it's a bit big for that.

I don't really listen to music while skiing, used to back in high school and college. I flip around Sirius like a maniac when I'm driving anywhere. New stuff, old stuff, country, rap, Phish, Bluesville. Drives my wife nuts.

One thing I can add to this is I remember what song(s) were playing every time I rode the Jackson tram. My very first ride I heard Highway to Hell and it was the morning of a melt freeze cycle so the song wasn't lying. Then the time I finally hit Corbets for the first time, Highway Star followed by Rainbow's Man on the Silver Mountain played and I was pretty pumped and ready to go until my skis were over the edge of the Couloir. Suddenly it was back to hesitation until I was finally in.

Right where I want to be
I have Spotify family plan. I can listen off line just by downloading before hand. Also have over 300 songs liked that are downloaded that I just put on shuffle. They also have daily mixes that mix your liked songs in a genre( jam bands, classic rock, bluegrass, grunge for example) with other similar bands. Also have podcasts on there.

I’m 50/50 on listening to music while I’m skiing. On technical terrain I usually go no music unless its something to hype me up for it. When deep in the woods most of the time I like to enjoy the silence of nature.
Easy bumps and groomers I’m usually listening to something (one airpod unless the mountain is empty). Fleet Foxes, the Dead, ABB, Pixies, Nirvana, Jethro Tull, The Beatles, The Clash, Billy Strings, Gram Parsons, Bruce Springsteen, Bob Seger, Bob Dylan, Cat Stevens, Neil Young, Van Morrison, Paul Simon, Hank Williams, Radiohead, Dire Straights, Tom Petty, CSN, Smashing Pumpkins, Supertramp, Mac Miller and Vampire Weekend are some of whats in my skiing playlist.
Driving is usually podcasts or audiobooks.
