Portillo Chile (12 hour flight dirct NYC to Santiago on LAN or American), maybe add on Easter Island Chile for some beach time?
Air Tahiti Nui flys direct to Tahiti (very luxurious 12 hour flight) and then on to New Zealand, so you could go ski in newzealand and Enjoy Tahiti or Moorea on the way

Portillo, Chile. July/August is peak. This season they have 256" of natural already, far and away the best of any Chilean resort so far. Booked solid for weeks. The skiing is great, but the best part of the place is the stunning alpine beauty of the Andes.

Just do it, you won't be sorry.

Great minds think alike.

Valle Nevado is also a great- looked into going but couldn't swing the dates this year...They have some good deals too. Less expensive than portillo...but if it's a honeymoon then go rock portillo. From what I have heard it's sick.

June is iffy in South America. July is the local holiday high season so prices are better in August.

For a honeymoon, I think the Gran Hotel at Termas de Chillan would have the best vibe. The hotel is much nicer than anything at Valle Nevado or Portillo and the food is better. Portillo is really small and I don't think I'd want to spend a week there. Portillo is also famous for lying about their snowfall. Expect half of what they report.

I haven't been there but Baraloche in Argentina looks to have a better mix of skiing and non-skiing things since the town is a major summer hot spot. In Chile, you're trapped at the resort and it's more like a cruise ship that has skiing.

Another option is the grand tour of the south island in New Zealand. Treble Cone in Wanaka has the best skiing. Mt Hutt in Methven is #2. If you don't mind a T-bar, a day at Ohau is a cool retro thing to do and the lodge on the lake has very nice rooms and great food. Queenstown is the only resort town and The Remarkables and Coronet Peak are worth a few days.

For next summer? I am also getting married next July. I'm trying to convince my fiancé to go to Portillo for honeymoon, next August… I honestly cannot even consider any other place. A once in a life time experience. However, I am having a tough time with it; she thinks it might be too expensive.
We both love to ski; the irony is that she’s way better skier than me … racer, ex-ski instructor, mogul Goddess, etc... -:)

Strongly recommend you you look into Chapelco in San Martin de los Andes. The town is quaint and beautiful and the skiing there is quite nice. When I was there with my friend who writes for the NY Times all we kept thinking was I wish I was here with a girl!!!!

Bariloche is awesome but slightly more urban. If you go there (and are willing to spend some bucks) look into staying at Llao Llao one of the most famous 5 star spas in the world.

From what I hear it is an awesome place for a honeymoon. Normally places like this are out of most peoples price range but with the devalued Argentine peso it is doable.

Portillio and Las Lenas are really more resorts by a mountain (kind of like a Club Med with skiing) and there really isnt much to do there outside of skiing.

Argentina is still very cheap right now so your dollar will go a lot farther than it would in Europe or even Chile (which is pricey in comparison). And if you go to Argentina you can have a layover in Buenos Aires which is a great City to goto on a honeymoon.

Mazel Tov and good luck!

Check one of the many global warming threads... May not be the best place to find summer snow...

Australia's NSW region. Perisher Blue. It's like a Mini-Whistler. Portillo is much, much closer though with more snowfall. Just mentioning what no one else has! Lots of other great activities in Australia too! Now, for closer stuff, Mammoth Mountain in California usually doesn't close until mid July in good snow years (their latest closing ever was Aug 15 or so!) and Whistler and Snowbird usually make it to July 4th as well. Whistler also operates on the glacier for a couple more months after the main mountain closes.

Shouldn't be a problem. English is practically a universal 2nd language these day. At the high end place resorts like LLao LLao everyone speaks fluent English.

While I speak Spanish, I've been to Argentina with friends who don't and they've never had a problem. In fact because the Argentine Spanish accent is so difficult for me to understand I even sometimes resort to speaking English there!

Believe me if I was looking for a summer skiing honeymoon I couldn't think of a better place to go than Argentina.

Thanks for all the help. We are looking into Mammoth Mountain and then going to Hawaii for some beach time. Or maybe a beach in California, any ideas?
