Austin lets see what happens. The Maine mountains usually come out of the bad weather pretty well. Russ the weather guy from SR gives good honest info. I'll wait and see what happens tonight and what he says tomorrow.

Russ is the man and defiantly knows what he talking about, so maybe they will come out on top, I just dont think the cool air will move in fast enough. But then again if sunday river doesnt loss as much base as k-mart then they wont need as much time to make snow.

From Sunday River:

Opening day is most likely this Friday, Nov. 18. Temps are forecast to drop by Thursday of this week allowing Sunday River snowmakers to resume their mountain burying conquests. They have already laid down a thick blanket on trails like Ecstasy, Jungle Road, Cascades, Upper Sunday Punch, Monday Morning and more. Expect those trails to get a bit more TLC before we move on to North Peak and Spruce. Looking to get your jib on? You'll find an assortment of rails and boxes on Easy Street. Tix’ll be $35 for adults, $25 jr/sr. Barker and South Ridge Base Lodges will be open to the public by the weekend

I can't see Killington allowing Okemo to beat them. I heard in a meeting last weekend, K mart had their heart set on beating everyone else by a day. I know that's no longer realistic, but I'm interested to see how things will play out.

Sugarbush is planning Friday or Saturday

Got an email from a friend who skied most of the snow last weekend that would be needed to be open for this weekend. Said it was good. Just needed a little more to connect to the lift. So the race is on.

fwiw, total wash out tonight in VT. even at killington at elevation it wasn't cold enough for snow and it's been pouring all day and night. not a fun drive home tonight. hopefully temps will dive over the next three days.

I can't see how Okemo could possibly beat out Killington. Killington is at a higher elevation and with the weather being as fickle as it has been, that's going to make a big difference.

there's no picture because they don't want you to see all the snow they made last week melting  seriously, it was pouring down there today.

Those were my thoughts as well :-?

Maybe it is colder up top....or it's a Kmart blue light special on...wink wink. http://www.killington.com/camshot.html

Ahh! It's snowing so hard that the flakes are turning into Red X's!

I don't understand how you guys are doubting Friday and Saturday. Temps will be 40 at best Thursday DOWN HERE and not even 30 on Friday. With the base the areas already have, they should all hit their targets. The Thanksgiving resorts look to be in even better shape.

Ummmmm...what base? :(

It's forecast to be in the 60's tomorrow :x

On a different note, Bretton Woods WAS open today.

"pre"-season pricing

I was wondering if you guys knew of any special rates that ski areas are having for early season turns. I know that some resorts only open up with a few open trails and thus sell discounted lift tickets.

I can't find any info on whether or not Okemo will offer any such discount. I am eager to get on my skiis as soon as possible and with Okemo tentatively opening Friday, I thought maybe I could pull that off. However, if they are charging the full $57 I would rethink that.

Any Help?

Bretton Woods was open on their beginner slope for FREE all this week...

Besides that, once places get opened, they usually prorate the day ticket price according to how much is opened. So places usually run from $25-$45 for a day as opposed to in excess of $50.

Welcome to the boards, redalienx11!

Most of the areas that were blowing for the past 5 days have at least 2 feet down already. It doesn't just go away in 1 day of 60s. And 2 days of the upcoming temps is enough to recover in time for the weekend as well as some natural snow this weekend.

It's funny. Someone here said "I wouldn't count on anything up to Dec. 3". Does anyone here read at least a weather forecast a day? Anyone should be able to pick out the colder air coming down and staying a while. I realize that there aren't many people glued to 7-10 different forecasts like Joshua and myself, but a simple look at stations as sucky as the Weather Channel will show air cold enough for snowmaking from Thursday out.

they aren't going to have much base to go on. there is going to be NOTHING left at kmart after this rain with exception of whatever they blew in the glades, oops i'm sorry, north ridge area. i was there today, it looked aweful. the glades area had decent edge to edge, but the rain today was brutal. i suspect kmart lost more than half of what they blew if not more and nothing will be left other than the remains of what they blew after tonight.

i am not saying the lifts won't be turning this weekend. just don't expect much. we had two crazy warm days and then a day of downpours, much of the snow making efforts from last week is going to be washed out. these guys are for the most part going to be starting all over again thursday night.

Zand, you are just way off base suggesting that the ski areas still have much of that two foot base remaining, let alone what they will have after tomorrow is said and done. the two feet didn't go away in one day, it has been five days of warm weather and rain. who needs a weather forecast when i saw it happening myself! it was near spring skiing at jay peak on sunday because the weather was so warm, that stuff was melting quick and isn't going to stop melting until thursday.

Did you hike and ski today? Thanks for telling us the real conditions. I am just hoping that the cold front comes through faster and that they can resume making snow tomorrow night.
